It is psychological warfare; a game you will never truly master, it's a rollercoaster ride of emotions, high and lows, but the high moments make the struggles and the futility of it oh so worth it! You will test yourself, emotionally and mentally, and put yourself through so much pain and self doubt at times you wonder if you are truly sane to do this all to yourself willingly.

It's a passion, a devotion, a neverending quest, life consuming, angst ridden, mesmerising, anger enticing, zen seeking and glorious in all of it's aspect and nature.

It's a card game, you make hands and you throw chips around, you strive to become fearless and a soul reader. In most cases the cards in your hand are irrelevant and it is just a battle of wills and counter moves against you and your opponent.

It's all about learning and developing; sharing with others and community!

In short - it's my other life!

Poker is like golf in a lot of ways. Even when you are winning, you are never happy with how you are playing. Even when you win, you still think of ways to improve.

Golf is also very much a personal, mental game like poker

I agree.

I also relate it to cricket, specifically, as a batsman.

You need to concentrate from ball one. At the start, you are taking in the conditions, the ball movement, and finding your feet. You grind to protect your wicket, choosing when to be agressive and when to be passive.

One bad decision on your part (or someone elses) and you're out... no return.

yep, cricket is very much the same as well. once you are out there, the skills are secondary, it is very much a mental game.

in fact all individual sports are the same. tennis is similar, momentum shifts can happen very suddenly

the mental aspect is very similar to all individual sports.

did people hear that poker was added to the list of official mind sports, similar to chess and bridge?
