maybe, but I look at it as if I don't have to show my cards, I usually wont. Why give away information you dont have to? And the only times I do show if I dont have to, whether its at a showdown or because I don't get any callers, it is because I want people to know... especially the first time I bluff successfully ;)

no, i am talking about whether i am the one that is getting called, i will turn them over immediately

otherwise, i rarely show my cards

people ask what i had, and i tell them what i was representing, not what i actually had :P

I reckon you're daft if you tell them anything at all.

About the only time it's worth showing your cards is if you're trying to create a specific image to use against them later.

Telling someone what you were representing tells them how you play certain hands and is dangerous IMO.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

you are right pete, i rarely say anything

i suppose what i meant was not what i was representing, but rather what they wanted to hear. i.e if they say "did you have a flush there?" i will say something like i may have done, or nice read or something. especially if i didn't have anything like a flush

Gotchya, misunderstood first time

otherwise, i rarely show my cards

I never (rarley) beleive anything anyone says at the table about their hand, for precisely that reason. ;)

Thats exactly what I meant about only showing when I want them to know. In the case of showing a bluff early, its in the hope of generating more action later...

In live games I generally build a tight image early by showing cards like AQ, AK, AA, QQ, KK. After the first break or a few hours in, I start making a move at pots but making sure that I keep my hands played/hands dealt ratio about the same. If people start to notice that you are playing a lot more hands you will get caught out.

I can tell you that it's the worst feeling when you have the nuts and get shown bluff cards. This is one of my weaknesses as I see the cards and become vindictive against the person who showed them and sometimes this makes me call when I shouldn't, raise when I shouldn't etc. Same things happens when someone sucks out on me like K2 v AA, I start playing hands purely because it is against the suckerer outerer.

bennymacca wrote:that rule is there purely to stop collusion

if you are the caller, and the other player rolls their cards and win, then you DONT have to show

if they ask you to show, then they are accusing you of cheating basically. so its within the rules for them to do it, but its massively bad

Yep, I get that now, just never heard or read that particular rule before. And I'm surprised players are allowed to do so directly, would have thought they should have to call over the TD and request the TD to check it out if they suspect something like that.

Thats another reason to show an early bluff ;) TILT!
Obviously noone would fold the nuts to a bluff, but if I bluff a pot and they fold, thats when I might show (only the first one though)

as pete said, i think in general its BAD to show cards at all

the problem with only showing good cards, is that when you dont, then its pretty obvious that you have just bluffed

there is no need to show cards to represent a tight image - just play tight and the better players will pick up on it anyway.

or conversely, no need to show bluffs either. if you want to lag it up, just start raising every hand, make them pay to see whether you are bluffing or not

I remember a situation at the Melb Champs where Ben CNT-CRUSHER Delaney, one of Australia's best online players, was heads up with another young gun and Ben pushed (he had the other guy covered). This was on the flop. The other guy called and turned over a Q-high flush. Ben mucked his cards when in actual fact he should have turned over and shown cards with two cards still to be dealt.
