$25 is very high, but as gunny said, a ring game in a pub would still be well supported. Im pretty sure if a game like that was running in peoples local venue that they would probably play in it for a while. The only thing different to most casinos is the $25 rake cap instead of $10. For an average pot of $40 they would still only take $4. And the times you win pots >$100 (which wouldn't happen too often), the extra rake isnt huge.
Compare this to playing at crown where its 10% up to $10 plus your time fee ($5), and it works out not much different does it? I think we are pretty spoiled in that adelaide casino has one of the cheaper poker rooms going around.
Gunny some games of holdem have a cap where each player can only put a certain amount into the pot - almost always online though.

Serious mate?
Adelaide is very expensive, considering the $1/$2 table is 10% capped at $10 as well. It doesn't help that most other major rooms in Australia are becoming astronomically expensive as well, but in no way are we spoiled by cheap rake.
Melbourne $2/$3 is 10% capped at $6, with $5 per hour.
So yes, $25 of rake is ridiculous. Based on pure numbers, who would pick this place over Burswood capped at $12? With professional dealers, surveillance and pit bosses?
gundog wrote:I think most are missing the real point, this is a 2/3 game in a pub, this puts them up against the Casino in some respect so I assume the rake is detirmined by the WA Govt. Just for comparisin Burswood also has a 10% rake capped at $12.
I wouldn't be making that assumption Graham. I'd be asking those in the know before assuming that the Government is dictating to the provider how much rake must be taken.
I know for a fact that Casino rake is determined by the Casino operators themselves, not the overseers. Adelaide is so high because it has such a low margin of profit for the casino even at that level in comparison to every other game on offer.

Re: Poker in Perth
Whoops my bad. I have only played at crown a couple of times and i was pretty sure it was 10% to $10 and a time fee, not $6 but im 100% sure that you would know better.
Im not saying it was a great game to play in, and given the choice then of course you would choose the cheaper option, but if i was at my local venue anyway, and there was a ring game going for people knocked out of the normal tourney (albeit an expensive one) i would probably play it.
Not sure if Garth has mentioned this before or not, but are the barriers that may allow ring games to be played in South Australia being moved (or are movable)?
I would certainly play at a place (like some providers have interstate) where there were low stakes ring games playing almost all the time and intermittent tournaments occurring at night times also.

For how long though?
I think after a month or 2 you'd be pretty sick of seeing $100's of rake eaten by the table.

Non-movable. Not gonna happen.

I think you would be way off the mark Caleb, I'm sure it would very popular
And just a word about the skill and professional of the staff member ran that game, he was a very skillful dealer who's chip handling skill and dealing was fast and accurate, equal to and better than many casino dealers.
But what do you think of running a freeroll and a buy in game running at the same time in a bigger venue as a trial, the only alteration reqired would be the blind levels and timings would have to be the same to avoid any confusion.
