PMK,
I have come out of a self imposed exile from posting in support of Macca because he is one of the good guys on this forum.
I must point out to you that I am a regular combatant with Maccatak11 in both live and on line poker, firstly you must put aside what an individual does for profession , its of no consequence if Macca is a teacher or shit carter, he is human after all and may in certain situations lash out without really considering the ramifications of his actions, almost everyone of us has flown off the handle in a bad beat situation in the poker room chat box at one time or another, if it was one or two remarks then build a bridge and get over it, but if it was sustained attack then you have justification to feel aggrieved. However I do not believe Macca would do the latter.
Lastly and this is for those elitists on the forum why do you play poker?
Me its mainly for fun……If I win I’ll let’ em know if I loose to a Bad Beat big deal my life don’t depend on it, there’s another game later today, or tomorrow or next week.

Could you please explain why anyone should actually have to resort to this? It's not at all unreasonable to expect players to do the right thing, exactly the same as they should be doing in a live environment.
Well the league has a diverse range of people from different backgrounds and of different ages. Sometimes what 20 year olds think is unoffesinsive banter could be construed by an older person as offensive and so in this case, turning off the chat could be warranted.
I am pretty sure you can turn off the chat for individual players which is what I meant.

The person who said that clearly has issues and I am sure when he said that he was probably on tilt and does not really mean it and in real life he's probably a nice boy from the suburbs who stays out of trouble. He probably has learnt to deal with his tilt issues in the last month and has resolved to take his frustrations out a cushion he keeps near the computer.

As is humility, apparently. Has it occurred to you that, perhaps, if so many people have misinterpreted your intent, that your wording is not as clear as you seem to think? I perceive far more arrogance from your posts regarding people's interpretation and use of language than I have in any of the poker discussions on these forums.

Soooo....
Not to be rude.... but gundog, who are you actually expecting to answer your question?
I put it to you, in a friendly manner, that those who you would presumably label as 'elitist' have recently offered to assist you - yet you have turned the other cheek and declined to comment one way or another.
I'm not trying to instigate a slanging match here, but I think you need to be a bit more realistic sir!
With reference only to your good self, you have made what are largely considered to be pretty average plays, boasted about them (often), and then sulked when it has been suggested that those average plays were... average. I completely agree there is a way to point these things out, just as there is also a way to accept genuine constructive feedback should it be offered.
Here's a scenario (it's not aimed directly at you though gundog):
Player A does something silly.
Player B says "wow, that's pretty silly!, are you serious?"
Player A says "well what would you have done, smart arse?"
Player B says "well I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve by doing that, doesn't really make a lot of sense"
Player A says <sulking> "oh you think you're so much better than everyone!"
Player B says "wtf?"
Players C, D and E rock up and exclaim "wow, everybody here is pretty cranky!"
Can you see where I'm going with this?
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

If by elitist you mean players who spend time outside of the game reading poker books, analysing hand histories etc then I guess I am part of that group.
I don't make money from playing poker, but I play poker for the intellectual stimulation - the blend of maths and statistics as well as the psycology. You've never quite and probably never will conquer the game - there's always something to be learned and just when you think you know everything the game evolves. Poker also teaches you valuable life lessons like discipline and controlling your emotions. It is particularly useful way of practicing accurately filling gaps with incomplete information. Above all there is nothing that gets the heart pumping more than poker - especially in live play.

Re: Rather Disappointed
Good point trishan.
I think what gundog and others might be getting at is there are those on here who are perceived as thinking they are better than everyone.
It's probably worth considering if someone actually is better than you before labelling them as elitist though. By that I mean, do they actually know more than you on <insert topic in question here> ? Have they consistently demonstrated as much? Do they actually know what they're talking about?
Most importantly though, are you merely perceiving their attitude as elitist and could you just be mistaken?

Trishan's 2nd post also makes some excellent points on why we play poker, +1 to that.
