Well,
I don't know how many of you here make the state finals on a regular basis but I am hoping to get there.
The way my stats look at the moment I might be there BUT I am not going to count my chickens just yet.
As some might know this is my first full season, (I think started 1/2 way through the previous season) and personally I am still learning the game itself.
So why this forum?
Well, I would LOVE to hear from those of you that have made finals and get some idea of what to expect.
Should the fact that we are only 1 out of over 700 people make us panic?
What do you suggest someone can do to prepare?
What about game plans? Do you instantly throw them out the window and change your strategy?
How do we know what tables to play on? Is it a matter of smash and grab?
Are the breaks the same?
Do we start with only $1,000 chips
Is there stamp up cards and redraws?
I would really appreciate some hints...
Thanks heaps in advance.

Re: Finals advice
(OOOPS... Non deliberate stats padding)
But I would really appreciate honest and constructive comments rather than bagging me for going into a form of panic mode now....

Re: Finals advice
Starting stack is 2500 I think.
Blind levels are different (more levels, more relaxed).
It can be daunting to begin with, especially the nervous anticipation before you start.
Get to the venue early, suss out where things are - food, drinks, facilities etc.
Don't throw your strategy out the window, hell - you get there using it, don't change anything.
If I've learnt anything, just KNOW your strategy. Try and make black and white thoughts in your head. think about every move because it's more than 4 hours, and there ain't no bad beats or redraws.
Could go into all sorts of things about strategy, but I think you're asking more the difference between the "minor round" and the "final"..?

You are given a table & seat number randomly.
How do we know what tables to play on? Is it a matter of smash and grab?
More relaxed blind levels, more starting chips (I think it 3000) and no redraws. You do have cards, but that is for spot prizes like chip setsAre the breaks the same?

I'm pretty sure it's a table number - but the seat numbers aren't random - you sit where you want on the table in whatever seats aren't taken.

I'm thinking the Casino event then. That had a seat number on it.

Re: Finals advice
Yes it did.
High possibility there will be another one next season.
Interesting new promotion too for you metro guys next season.
Sorry for the delay in getting additional promotions to you all for this year.
So much on so little time.
Caroline,
The structure of the tournament is definitely more relaxed, you will start with $3,000 in chips, there are extra blind levels and the majority of them do last twenty minutes.
There will definitely be over 250 on each flight, so getting used to the big field size, the hustle and bustle and Nathan and myself on a microphone is something that every rookie needs to adapt to.
With the stack and relaxed structure I would advise to tighten up your game for the first three blind levels and start trying to figure out what types of players you have on the table and who you can play against and who you can't.
The biggest recommendation I can give to any player is; eat well the night before, hydrate yourself well and get plenty of rest. It is a long day and the breaks are few and far between whilst playing and then the breaks between flights and combine can be strenuous.
