The other night, there were 10 players left, blinds are 1000-2000, i have 5K but 2 of that is in for BB.
UTG with a substantial stack raises to 5K. Everyone folds round to the SB, who calls 5K of his 6K stack.
This makes 12K in the pot, and to call i have to put another 3K in, putting me all in.
UTG is a loose-agressive player, probably not one of the best players around, but by no means the worst. (i wont name him here)
SB was Russell Minett - very good player - top 5 in the region for sure.
I look down at my cards and see
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION? Vote in the poll above before you see what i did.
Spoiler:
After thinking for a while, i ended up calling. i thought that my cards were good enough to gamble with, as i was short stacked anyway.
i was getting 4:1 pot odds on my cash, and i put both of them on high cards, russells higher than the other players.
in the end, they both turned over AJ and split the pot, but i very nearly won it all with a flush draw on the river not coming off.
russell asked my why i called after the tournament, and i told him i was prepared to gamble because if i won, i would have gone deep into the tournament.
but if i folded, then i would have had at least 2K left, and would have made the final table - and who knows, if i had drawn the ace, i could have folded to 5th or something, maybe even higher if i won the hand i got some good cards.
to this day i am not sure if my call was the correct one, just wanting to know what everyone else thinks about it.

turn. i.e runner runner flush would have come off it the river was a diamond
I know, you said river though - and I was thinking "Hmmm does benny the cunt know there's only five community cards??"
benny the cunt : "HEY Where's the second river??? I have a flush draw!!" Someone else : "The second river went out with the second break, that's why you didn't see it" Other people " *laughter*
Just kidding mate

yeah good point. i was pretty sure that neither of them had 66 or 77, and the first player MAY have raised with A6 or A7, but chances are they wouldn't. so i thought my cards were fresh and decided to gamble.
i know a lot of people that would have folded their way to FT though

if it was AK, then it would have read THE worst player around
