You're a Bunch of Factors

First of all i want to take this opportunity to thank, Tim, Nathan, Garth and all the crew for a great day yesterday.

As i will explain soon, i spent a great deal of the day on the sidelines watching not only the action but the hard work put in by the staff and management and you guys really put in the hard yards and produce a top notch product.

My day personally was somewhat disapointing, for the first time in 4 appearances in states I lasted less than the 2hr travel time from Waikerie.

Was pretty much card deprived on a reasonably agresive table ( first 3 hands all generated 1k plus pots), so I sat tight then after and hour of not playing raised 4 x UTG with 99, only to be called then re raised all in, putting me in quite a spot, do i want to risk it now, I chose to fold. But this was the turning point for me with most of my table mates building their stack and me sitting and waiting. I stole the blinds at the 1 and a half hour mark to have my first and only collect of the tournament then i went hard next hand on [ac jc] only to be re raised by the agressive big stack, got to the flop and hit top pair with [Ad Kc 3c], and ended up with all my chips in the middle only to find the big stack with [kd 3s], and that was me done.

at this point it was nearly 1 oclock and i could have gone home in time to play with my kids for the afternoon, but i had agreed to bring up a young player with me and he was performing well.

Turns out my mate Dan Schiller was performing very well so i ended up sitting their nearly all night, either playing the repocharge ( where i also got screwed over ) or on the 888 table ( great fun ) but mainly supporting Dan.

At nearly 10 oclock we crawled out of the Port club with dan clutching his $300 cheque for his excellent finish in 11th and me clutching a Mother energy drink as we still had our 2hr return trip.

The trip home didnt seem that long though as Dan had plenty of hands to tell me about and I chipped in with my plethora of bad beats as well.

I'll treat "states" as the entire weekend.

My weekend started Friday evening when I ventured to the Port Club for the rebuy event. I thought that overall, being the first CBI, it was run really well. The stamping system/amounts might be tweaked but if anything it did add a lot of cash to the player stacks.

My over pair ran into a lower ove rpair that made a set on the turn and I was out - at least I got my money in with the best hand.

After I went out I spent the rest of the evening taking photos of people, including the final table action. I have to thank Andrew (muzz) for staying around - he was feeling very much under the weather before the night even started but hung around with me (since we came together). I couldn't leave after taking photos all night and not get the winner. If only the final two could actually play quicker! But it was a really good heads up game at the end.

I didn't play the FTT event on Saturday morning/afternoon, but I did get there with Scott in time to see Andrew(Again, muzz) still be in with 3 tables remaining. He ended up pushing with his short stack and finished 15th which was a great effort in a field of almost 300, again feeling under the weather.

Scott and I signed up for the partners event and received our cards. The area to register probably could have been in an easier location with the line snaking around a fair bit! But it was ok in the end.

Scott and I were basically card dead for the most part. Our stack was blinding down before Scott had around 25% of our stack in for the BB, which he checked.

Flop came [kc] [qc] [2h] or something similar and Scott went all in for our last $2k-ish which resulted in two callers.

Scott rolled over [2d] [2s] for bottom set. The other hands were a flush draw and AK I beleive.

The turn and river gave no love to either of the other players and Scott and I moved to around $10k.

On my turn I doubled this to around $24k and then Scott took us to over $30k.

From there, we were card dead and the blinds were so high it was getting desperate.

Finally we were on the final table (and money) bubble, 5 on each table. Michael Wilkinson re-raised a min-raise all in. I looked down at Ace King which I don't think I've folded before. I tanked for a bit and mucked.

The initial raiser folded and Michael showed his hand of pocket Kings. After that, the small stack on the other table was blinded out and we were on the final table.

Unfortunately we only had 14k on the FT and the BB was 16k. Scott pushed with the best of what we had and fell short but we were extremely happy that we made the FT. The best part was that I managed to gain entry into the state final on Sunday. So did Scott but he was already in.

Sunday came and I woke up for my first state final since the TTG Hotel (haven't played nearly enough anywhere to qualify since then) and it was exciting. Again, I was card dead for the most part and my stack went from 5k to 2k before I doubled up and won some junk pots to have 6k at the first break.

After the break I played well for not much gain, but made a made read on someone who looked extremely nervous, but obviously wasn't when his rivered straight beat my set.

I gave some money to the Port Club pokies fund before signing up for the repicharge event. Our table was extremely weird, and I was heads up with an older gentleman. I think we played for a good 20 minutes after any other table had finished, before the blinds were to the point that one of us was almost all in each hand. Unfortunately he hit on the hand I was all in on and that was the end. I had fun though

I left around 5:30 with Laura still in doing well, though that was the last of the people I knew (that I could see).



Once again, supremely run events all weekend. Having that much poker in that many forms was a nightmare logistically but well done.

Nathan did a great job even if his suit was too tight. Tim really shone in the biggest NPL weekend thus far. Garth was his usual self, showing authority until he no doubt had too many Jacks late Sunday

Caleb did well to man the 888.com desk all weekend, and the rest of the guys did a great job running the floor; Matts (Porter and Norwood), Ash, Alex and everyone else.

I had a personal victory yesterday, in the form of lasting longer than 2 hours. I got knocked out with less than 60 people left. Got moved to a table of big stacks (one guy had 140K), my paltry 17K no threat. Was card dead and watched the antes and blinds chip away at my stack.

I played in all of the events over the weekend except the regional event.

Friday nights cash game was really good (except for the stamp card issues but I'm sure that will be looked at) and a decent sized field of 128 runners was not to be sniffed at. As mentioned elsewhere I managed to land myself in 12th which was in the cash so I'm sure the Port Club heaved a sigh of relief that I wouldn't be destroying their furniture

Started that tournament very well and notable moments were flogging Scott for about 3k in the first few hands and then the both of us completely dominating the table until we got broken. Also making a comeback later in the night after seeing my stack essentially disappear after such a good start. We were nearish to the cash bubble and had just had a break. Walked past Garth (who had been paying attention to what was happening) on the way to the table and said "well I guess we both know what's happening now" and 1st hand was 44 UTG with me essentially allin on the BB next if I chose to fold. 44 was the best hand I'd seen in hours so I took a breath and shoved finding myself with 2 callers one of whom was also allin for a bit less. They showed JJ and QJ and the flop brought no joy so I stood up and started aiming my furniture destroying abilities at something on the other side of the room only to see a 4 land on the turn! Smacked the table with delight (thought I broke it hehe) and the river didn't bring any joy for my opponents so I was back in the game!

Pretty much next hand I flat called with A8 (essentially decided it was time to make a move) and a monster luck-box running like god stack to my right was also in the hand. Flop showed an ace and I think we both checked. Turn brought another ace, big stack bets and I flat call. Nothing exciting on the river and big stack says 'allin' and I nearly choked cos I couldn't say CALL quick enough! I had correctly put the big stack on nothing at all and took a crapload more chips and was RIGHT back in the mix with over 100k. Sadly that was the end of the excitement for me as nothing else after that seemed to work and the bubble took AGES to go despite there being heaps of allins on the other tables. That essentially whittled me back down again as I was determined to cash and couldn't care less where I finished at that stage just as long as I did cash.

Rebuy event: Out 21st, pushed all-in UTG with AA, 2 snap calls, flop the set but 4 board clubs gave the flush to ........ Q freakin' 3.

Partners event: What Dave said.

Main Event: Out on the stroke of 3, was busted down to 4k just prior. Ended up 3-bet shoving from the BB after the SB was clearly trying to steal, who insta-called.

K J v his 8 7 - board ran out 3 A 10 J 9. Awesome.

That Q-freakin-3 went on to come second too What a call!

That last beat was a tad horrid
