Whats a better performance?

Having a chat with another player the other night about whats better

Consistant FT, say 4/5 FT in a 30-40 person field
One off win, say 1/5 FT but its a win

In my opinion i think its better having consistant FT apperances, as it means you are playing well and running deep, without winning the FT flips
He thought a win was better, as according to him a win supposibly shows you are better than the other players

What do other people think?

Consistency is the rule in poker.
I'd rather constantly cash than only have a big win.
If you constantly cash, the chances are much better for a win.
:D

Joe Hachem,
Jamie Gold,
Chris Moneymaker,
Chris Ferguson,
Phil Helmuth,
Daniel Negreanu,
Jerry Yang,
Peter Eastgate,
Phil Ivey.
Nick Schulman,
Joe Cada

All of the players above have shipped the WSOP ME or several majors. But list the players in who you respect as decent players and it soon becomes obvious that a GREAT player is not measure by one win but rather continued successes and consistent performance!

I used to have a very good strike rate back in NPL days, I'd win one in every 22ish games I played (and not just scott sized fields :D). edit: should note here that my points finishes were pretty infrequent in these days.

Toward the end of my frequent playing days, I started to not win so much, but often get close to bubble, then I found a sweet spot where I'd get points, often deep, without the win. I considered that my best poker.

I try and play that way online now, but I've also started to throw in a little more pushing to spice things up once I get < 20BB (rather than 10) which variance just loves, but I've also picked up a couple of 1st/2nds

Summing up (finally) I rate placing (4th:D) consistently, the best poker lolz!

yep i agree garth.

pretty easy to luckbox 1 win, pretty hard to do it consistently.

i mean darvin moon nearly won the WSOP, and if anyone following his play closely would know that he isn't going to to that regularly.

talk to scott if you wanna know about making final tables without cracking it for the big one :D
