hey all

i thought it was about time someone made a thread about how everyone has improved there poker game since the introduction of NPL tournaments.

I personally have improved dramatically, in season 1 i only knew the basic rules and thought a picture card made my hand unbeatable, even shuffling was a difficult task. But now i feel i have a good reading ability and i look for weaknesses in other players and feel real confident in my game

so what areas of your game have you improved the most? and what areas do u want to keep working on?

All of the above Steve, all of the above. Always looking for tells and looking for weakness in a player. Mine was I played too tight and people knew it. Dakoda told me loosen my play a little and do some bluffin and raises that aren't the norm for me.

Try different things to help improve your game. Here's my stats at the moment.

The first season was a little slow at the beginning in fact my very first game was at the Winsor. I lasted 4 hands and as I had no idea about redraws etc I left straight away.

I met some people who I could socialise with and that was my turning point. I improved as the season neared the end. I managed to finish sixth at the Gardens missing out by 2 points. Bugga.

In the second season NPL introduce the new chipping system and I changed my playing style slightly. The results were much better. I finished 1st, at the Gardens, 3rd at Para Hills and 4th at Roulettes and finished 28th in top 50.

Unfortunately, I made a really bad play in the finals against the eventual winner and was left with $50, LOL. I built it up to $800 and from memory and hit a king high straight on the flop to go allin.

Four others at the table continued betting and a couple more allins I thought I'm sitting pretty and was about to max my stack to $4k.
Woohoo!!!! I was ready to rake and stack, LOL. Unfortunately the young lady to my left slow played the table and took us all out with an ace high straight.

Started off this season and my placings are lower than Season 2 but I think I'm playing a better game but not getting any luck to go with it. I think LUCK plays a big role in No Limit Holdem and betting skills are just in front.

LOL i think i have actually gone backwards a bit since season 1.

in the first season, i felt like there weren't many players that had much experience. when NPL started, i had been playing low limit online games for about 3 years, so i was pretty confident. and in season 1, i took the venue lead by about 50 points. i did this by playing agressive and throwing in my chips where noone else was game.

then by season 2, everyone got a little more confident and started throwing chips around. this was bad for me, as i was also in final year uni, and feeling guilty that i wasnt home studying. so i gambled a lot more and it didnt work out for me.

this season i feel i have had no luck at all, but overall the standard has lifted a hell of a lot. i feel like i have to be on my game all of the time to get anywhere. this is a credit to the NPL and its players, and i love that its a tough game now.

i think the game has changed a lot with the new flight card system. people are a lot more willing to call you down in the early stages of a tournament because they arent gonna get knocked out of a tourney. this is something that has taken me some time to get used to, but i think its a better system, because noone likes going out in the first 5 mintues.

with a little luck, i feel like i should still make the state finals, but its gonna be tough

I've definitely improved since my first season. I knew the rules of poker when I first started, but this was my first time playing (apart from one home game) without the use of a keyboard.

I didn't know how to play the tables (and some would say I still don't ). How do you read your opponents? Was that $400 raise a bluff? Now, I'm getting better. First season, from something like 10 games, I made two final tables - 8th and 4th.

Second season, I had more, and my first win.

This season? 5 final tables, another win and counting.

So results wise, you could definitely say I've improved.

Yes I agree, it is a bit different this season. Keep playing tighter and then hit em hard LOL gotta go son wants puter.

I won the first tournament I rocked up to - so for me my performances have on average been downhill ever since!

getting to the stage if I'm not in the points or on a final table i'm not happy .... you B..st..ds.

The Calibar and Talent of NPL is certainly improving making self improvement vital cus--- its tough at the top and tougher getting there .....you B..st..ds......
