Re: 800 members!
I gather that you guys don't hold much significance in the slb, but top 10 is a great effort, no matter how you look at it ... Q9

Re: 800 members!
No, we don't at all Rosemary. It's a flawed average. The state leaderboard is a list of the best people who want to play a hell of a lot of games. And even then, not overly accurate.
Imagine averages in cricket. Your average, in order to be listed in lists, has to be over a minimum number of games.
Once you reach this minimum, your average is listed.
But, every game you play after that affects your average. Listing the best batsmen in the world for example, would be severely flawed, if they only included their best 15 games. It doesn't take into account anything else in any other game, just 15 games.
This doesn't tell you anything!
Playing that many games, is commendable (or a similar word that doesn't imply talent) and to score well, only against other people who play a similar amount, is good also.
But the leaderboard is by no means a list of the best players, playing NPL.
And yes, I mean the green-covered DVD, hence it was tongue in cheek
(Everyone has at least 50 of these)

Re: 800 members!
thats not to say you aren't the best poker player in NPL - you may well be, and you certainly have to be better than average to win the SLB. but if phil hellmuth played NPL and only played 30 games a season, he still isn't winning the state leaderboard.

Re: 800 members!
AArrggh! Not the dreaded leaderboard discussion again!
I have never won a SLB but this is the first time I am chasing it and am currently in the top 10. Yes I have managed to play a lot of games this season and on average I make it to final table at least twice a week. I dont think I am one of the best players in NPL, however, I like to think I am at least average if not just a little above average since I am consistent in my placings, especially at larger venues.
This is not to say that just because other players are not in the top 10, they are worse than me, they may just play less games and therefore have less opportunities to obtain big points.

Re: 800 members!
I appreciate your honesty re this matter and for being so forthcoming .. I would ask that you read recent posts in the thread titled state leaderboard and see the opinions after checking out the state l.b. for victoria ... as I think some views may have changed a little.
as for why we don't play as many games as our s.a. friends, hhmmmm.... we went to a different region to where we currently play, for a 7.30 start. the game was finished by around 10, they had 63 players, and the manager of the venue put up a slab for the winner of another game ... so around 80% of the players stayed.
just after midnight, and the venue was still alive and kicking, the 2nd game finished and the manager put on special drink prices and 2 x 6 packs of ??? breezers ??? something like that ... and so started another game. we had a ball ...
I read that in s.a. you have early games and late games. I think NPL have only trialled a lunchtime game at 2 venues in melbourne, both being in Geelong, but they have not taken off very well as far as I can see.
I think they would work in metro west, especially at the hoppers club as it has such good tucker ... lol ... and perhaps even a second game like you guys have might work somewhere too ..
If the games were there, and the prize was worth winning, we would be there ... lol .....

Re: 800 members!
Lunchtime games exist here on sundays queen, but when people refer to the early or late game, they are talking about venues that have two games in the one night. e.g. paradise on a friday night has a 7:00 game and an 11:00 game.
We dont have any lunchtime games other than sunday arvo's (that im aware of)

Re: 800 members!
there are also 2am games as well at some venues
so the CBD players in SA can play 3 games a night a lot of the time

Re: 800 members!
Yeah I think you mis-interpreted what I was saying there Rosemary.
Kentishgirl mentioned one night that she "had to be a good player because she was 3rd on the SLB" and I laughed at her, a lot.
She came and sat with us at our regular venue and in the first 5 minutes I relieved her of her starting chips and forced her to use a stamp card, then did it again which forced her to use her second card, then took some more chips and left her with extremely little.
The amusing thing though, is that she got moved to another table and fluked a good result
So no, being on the SLB doesn't mean anything. It just means you have done well enough in 15 games to be listed there. A lot of the time it's 15 out of 100+ to choose from, and less than 25 of those are actually any good at all. It's a joke. But the biggest joke is players who actually believe they are good players just because they're on the SLB.
They possibly need to be reminded they are often playing in a pub with other novices, and not at the RIO in Vegas.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Man, every topic is turning into a "the SLB is poo" thread nowadays
But yes, I can only second what Pete is saying. The SLB (like all leaderboards in NPL) is flawed.
