Area for forum members only

Postby trishan » Thu Jul 08, 2010 3:34 pm

Hey Murrins,

Was wandering if we could have an area which only forum members can see. Where we can post stuff that we do not necessarily want the general public to view. Obviously people can sign up, but it will prevent sticky beakers. Say that we post a hand history with our username any old person can come along and look at it, but in a private area they would need to sign up and the probably wouldnt be bothered.

Just a thought. There may be other reasons too for having a member only area.

Had considered that, but I wasn't sure if THAT section would need subsections!

FWIW, I think some sections are already members only, but I'd have to check.

I could, for example (if it's not already) put a restriction on guests for the online section.

in general, what would be gained by doing that though?

the only reason i could see is if we had a forum passworded tournament.

other than that, there is bugger all difference between someone who has signed up but lurks, and a general lurker.

It does stop posts coming up in search engines and the like, which is one benefit.

Just checked - the ONLINE POKER section is only viewable by registered users.

Tempted to make the whole site apart from the 888PL sections at the top like that too.

this was going to be my second suggestion - any "official" 888pl thread should be public, all others can be private.

another question - we have 888pl in vic, tas, sa etc. should we have a 888pl online section?

this would mean that things like the online champs discussion, and online news can be posted there, instead of in general poker chat or online poker forums.

that way, there will be completely separate places for specific 888pl content and the online poker and general chat forums can be used for other poker stuff like the wsop or playing on other sites.

10 mins of work and you could move a bunch of the existing threads into this new forum.

what do you think?

Yeah Online Poker was made for people just playing anything, anywhere...
Then 888PL started.. Online Poker.

So that section sorta took over.

But yes, have meant to do that.

Some dude you are playing HU with wants some information about your thought process and how you play. He comes here, no need to register and gets more information than any site can provide because any old person can view it. Would he be bothered to sign up and then see it? Prob not.

Also if you make a joke or something like that, people who are just researching the league may be put off. For example say they saw that thread with the poker set up. They probably would not have found it elsewhere.

if you post on a forum, you should expect it to be public knowledge, or else dont post it.
