If you raised preflop then the player with Q7 shouldn't give much thought at all to even playing that hand and the player with 99 would likely a) flat call or b) push back hard.

If they pushed back hard you're likely to drop your 45 and move on to the next hand.

If they flat call then it's low straight for you and up/down draw for them.... could be very interestiing!

Even though you only had 45 preflop, nobody raised... you could possibly have given more thought to charging a limpers tax (I love that term) and if nothing else you're likely to find out who thinks they have a hand or not and this can help your decision making later on in the hand if you take it that far.

I see a LOT of NPL players that are more than happy to call the BB just to see a flop but as soon as anyone raises they shut up shop and fold and give you a dirty look for being so rude :P
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

On the basis that my stack was 9,000, what was in the pot, my pot odds and implied odds of 3 to 1 and the turbo format of NPL tournaments my chips are going in.

Check raising in that situation was pretty ordinary, by the time it's your action somebody will be offered the right odds.

Next time jam the flop and take down the 2,400 pot. That's 50% of your stack and a half decent haul. You would make those who have 99 possibly fold and if the Q7 comes along at least you are making him pay for it.

Or in that situation, in an NPL tournament, I would definitely check call the flop and see what the turn brings, you know someone is drawing to a flush or higher str8 on that board.

Then if a scare card doesn't fall jam the turn. And if one does you are giving yourself half a chance to give up the hand and not risk your tournament life

Don't forget that whole calling mentality changes on the turn. Where before I had 'oh well, two cards to come" you now have "bugger only one card to come and I'm on a lousy flush draw"
