Im raising pre-flop for starters, but in this scenario i would raise here most of the time. He is folding any lower pair than tens or A-paint.
If he flat calls my raise then i would put him on AT mostly, i doubt he would do that with QQ or better in the hole, Im raise/folding in this situation i think.
I read parts of that long and boring msn convo, and i disagree with ben here. Im not looking to get into a big pot with JJ over the board. We aren't that strong and i want to win the pot there and then. If a AKQ or T comes off we cant be confident of being in front any more. Yes its a dry board, but we still only have ONE pair, and a semi-marginal one at that.
Im waiting for a better hand to build a big pot, especially in a cash game.
Raise/folf here 90% of the time.

Re: Hand Discussion
what i am trying to say, is that why would you raise if you dont want to get into a big pot? it just seems silly, because you are folding out everything that beats you, and if you are already beat, you are lighting money on fire by putting in a raise
JJ is not great you are right, but you have lots of showdown value here, so i would be flat calling, and trying to get to showdown.
lets say he has A10 or K10
if you raise here, he is folding, and you rake down a small pot.
if you call, turn blanks, you both check.
river, is also junk, he bets, you flat, you win. you get 1 more bet out of him.
if he has 99, then its the same.
i am not talking about playing for stacks here, but rather controlling the pot to get to showdown. if you raise, and he shoves, you have to fold, if he calls the raise and then shoves the turn, then what? horrible spot then.

why????
That'd give him top pair and top/good kicker. Can't see a fold there from a player who was previously tight and now actually has a hand to play.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Hand Discussion
I'd doubt a player who is described as "very tight", not TAG, would have either of those hands in their range to warrant a 4x raise pre flop.

you are probably right scott
which makes even more of a case for calling and keeping the pot small
