at our stakes there is pretty much no reason to slow play big hands unless we are against super aggro players. Just value bet the shit out of everything. They call any amount with their draw normally. Raising to $1 on the flop and $4 on the turn won't stop him hitting his draw, but it will mean you win more the times that it doesn't.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

Planning on c/r turn as I was fairly confident this player would continue to bet.

My most memorable hand from Melbourne:

Back story:

Got into crown at 12pm Friday. By 5am Saturday, I was in for $800, $200 at a time. Twice got it in on the flop with up and down straight flush draws against overpairs and missed. Once made a bad read and got it in on the turn with a pair and a flush draw against top set. Bye-bye 3 buy ins.

During this 17 hour session I had KK once, AK about 10 times and had only flopped one set. I was making good plays and reads to double my stack to around $400-$450 every time until I lost the lot.

So, by 5am I was on $483, and quite seriously considering packing up and eating the loss for the day. 5:30am when they took time charge was my time limit. Then this hand appears.

Crown Casino $2/$3 NLHE

Positions that matter:
Seat 7: SB $470
Seat 9: UTG $295
Seat 4: LP (Hero) $483

Lots of other big stacks on the table, ranging from $500-$1500.

Hero dealt [4c 4s]

UTG makes it $15. Two callers. I call. SB & BB call. 6 to the flop.

Flop [9h 6h 4d] (Pot $90)

Yay. I might actually go home ahead.
All checked around to me. I lead for $38, more hoping I look weak to find a re-raise. Even If I find a caller or 2 I put in a BIG bet on turn on any non heart card into a $170+ pot.

SB c/rs to $90. BB folds and UTG flats. Folds to me.

The table I was one was a typical $2/$3 table, especially at that time of the morning. Massively over-valuing hand strengths and not afraid to put stacks in on TPTK type hands.

And then I thought to myself, when am I ever folding a set here. SB could have a bigger set, but I get the feeling the money is going in here regardless of holdings. UTG, the initial raiser, is drawing, maybe a weird play with an overpair.

I end up shoving and getting snap called by both.

Flop [9h 6h 4d]
SB $470 [6d 6c]
UTG $295 [4h 3h]
Hero $483 [4c 4s]

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how to get your money in with a flopped set in a $1000+ pot drawing completely and utterly dead.

Left me with $13.

I love this game.

Why almost pot bet on such a dry board, with top set? 1/2 pot is a great size imho. Bet larger on that turn definitely though...

down to ~300 (from ~8500) in the Daily Dollar $10K GTD on full tilt...
Just under an average stack, when this hand:

1200/2400/300
in SB, dealt AA

MP raises to 7,000, CO min 3bets to 11,600, I 4bet shove for 68K, BB over-calls for his last 40K....

MP/CO fold...

BB shows 55

and turns a set, of course...

>SIGH<

Live local venue last week.
About 6K stack at 200/400, 3 limpers and I look down from the SB to see 2 awesome black Kings, I raise to 1400 and get, of course, 3 callers! Flop 456r which I open shove only to get called by Deuces :D which spikes a 3 on the turn...
