I have never been angrier over a hand of poker

Postby bennymacca » Mon Jun 23, 2008 12:09 am

Ok, so we are at the willo tonight 36 runners, i play really well, with only 2 showdowns up until the final table (i got AK pushed for 14 when the blinds were 3-6 and got called by AJ and K8 and it held up, and earlier in the night when i had JJ and called an all in against 6-3 LOL)

so i get to the final table with 36K, second in chips behind gordie who had 42, and the next best is about 20. so i am thinking i have a good shot of a win here.

fold the first few hands, until i am on the BB.

blinds are 3K-6K utg has won a pot by this stage, and has 30K, and he flat calls. the rest of the table folds to me, and i look down at 99. so i raise to 18K.

UTG thinks for about 1 microsecond, and says "ill put u all in"
i think he has got overs, but this guy was pretty much a very loose player, so i call.

he turns over
[kc] [7c]

i mean WTF????!???!???!???!??

seriously, what did he think i had? who makes a call like that for all their chips?

sure enough, K on the flop smashed me.

i was just stunned.

lol darren had to tell me to breathe a few hands later, because i was still steaming.

dare i say it, but this player came second in a recent state finals tournament in another league that shall not be named. just goes to show the quality of their patrons.

i ended up getting lucky with my remaining 6K, and i ended up 3rd for the third time this season!!!

but still, not happy jan

I know it was a really bad play by that person, but you shouldn't get angry just because somebody plays a hand in a different way to what you would have.

Maybe they thought you were charging a limpers tax, had a low ace, or pockets less that 5. In all of those situations you would fold wouldn't you?

Hey, he bluffed and got caught, but ended up getting lucky. Too bad so sad. How many times have you bluffed from position and picked up an easy pot. Granted it was a little strange to flat call and then re-raise. But AA or KK could have been played exactly the same way couldnt they?

I don't rate it as that bad of a play at all. In fact, the other player might have been unlucky that you had 99 and not a low ace as i had suggested??

you are giving this player way more respect than he deserves. he really wasn't capable of making that sort of move, based on what he did before and after that hand, and from what i have seen of him in the last couple of weeks.

The player that you are talking about is excessively aggressive with any two cards, take it from someone who knows!!!

He would have done it on 3-6o and sucked out on you with a straight or two pair.

Why are you angry? You just got unlucky (that is how I look at it)...you could have just checked the flop, the K hit on the flop, put out a min bet to see if he hit and you get out with the rest of your stack.

Watch this player for excessive aggression on draws, particularly flush draws, lol!!

he raised all in pre-flop shannon, which meant if i called, i would only have 6K left, and i decided to call. if he flat called and then hit his k, i would have laid it down, and it wouldn't have been that bad a move by him.

i was just angry because i heard that it was the last night for the willo on sundays (still to be confirmed, they are gonna move to tuesdays i think), and i was in a good position to win the tournament. and to lose in that way just annoyed me

I guess that I read here that you had re-opened the betting after he had flat called the BB. Oops.

Shannon's advice for today. Don't be scared to limp with monsters if others have limped before you. On a final table, any A or K is good in lots of players book. And be careful, coz when you try to steal a pot, you just might be pot-committing yourself in the process.

AKs got me knocked out of a skittles tourney sat night, final table 5 runners left guy pushes all in I call coz I know I've got him smashed this time, problem BB calls, the monster 6-1 chip leader on the table. Initial all in has A8o, I have AKs, BB has, yep, AA....LOL. I did hit the K on the flop to his 8 tho!!

Left with 457 skittles, so not a bad night out afterall!!
