Beating Bob B

Postby Shreky » Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:06 am

Last week on the final table after knocking Bob B's AK out with my 10 9 off, I copped a bit of slack on making this call. So during the week I stated that I would knock him out again this week, although this time before the final table.

So at 800/400 blinds I look down at K9 of diamonds. Average hand but I thought I'd call the 800 as I had a few chips. Bob B on my right goes all in. I push my cards together preparing for my fold when he announces "1600". I stop myself. 1600 is only minimum raise. I thought if I was gonna call the 800 it was woth me calling the 1600. So I did. Everyone else folds. Bob turns over pocket 9's.

Flop comes (and I expect a comment on the correctness of this Bob) J Q 8 ( I think). Turn comes X (irrelevant). I need a king or a 10 to win. River comes 10 giving me the straight, 8 9 10 J Q K and giving Bob the 8 9 10 J Q straight. I take the pot with the higher straight.

I must admit it was unlucky for Bob. However, as he gladly states we are almost family and so I'm sure he will forgive me for knocking him out two weeks in a row. Although if he see's I'm now above him on the leaderboard he might not be so happy.

With any luck though I'll get to have another crack at him next week and as they say, third times the charm ;)

Well for starters I didn't think you were in the pot because if you were then I would have been the SB for $400 and you would be the BB to have $800 in the pot!

I actually went ALLIN with $1600 because I realised I had this Shreky looking kid on my left who is known to be a calling station with any two cards. :o

So I actually thought that he would have respected not only the $1,600 bet, but due to the fact that it was an ALLIN bet he may have folded rather than go fishing.

Well you did call my $1,600 and you turned a k9 which I must say didn't make me feel any better with the King as an over card. Flop was pretty well as you said and I was shattered to see the friggin ten on the river. :(

Two suck outs in in a row is a bit much but I'll be there again next week. Nice call Shreky my turn will come M8. And by the way the family thingy is finished ............... no more mr nice guy LOL

I wasn't in the pot Bob. You were under the gun. And as for the calling station comment, can be true sometimes, but I don't call with just any two cards, I have to at least have some chance. And I only play like that when I have lots of chips :)

Sorry Shreky I misread your comment. I see what you meant now as you were about to call the $800 with K9d and when I went ALLIN you were about to fold and said to yourself. Stuff this it's only another $800 more than I was gonna call and threw caution to the wind!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a logical sort of play to me. Fold with poor hand and save $1,600 for a better hand or call with a mediocre "I might get lucky hand". :o

Obviously we all need a little luck from time to time and I guess mine is coming next week Shreky LOL. Or the next week, LOL

Well my luck has to run out eventually and both times we've gone head to head you've had me beat pre-flop so sooner or later you have to win one :)
