Today at the Aussie

Postby Nevah play JJ » Sun Jul 06, 2008 9:34 pm

Playing today at the Aussie Hotel..
(Which by the way is brilliant, excellent friendly staff, nice place to play, (well maybe the TD is a bit dodgy  )).

I got moved to another table, "fine" I think...
Wait a few hands...
Blinds are $500, $1,000.

Get dealt:
[jh] [jd]
(think I have the suits right, it kinda doesn't matter)

OK!!! Well anyone that knows me knows I HATE JJ.

I decide to play them, against my better judgement.

Raise to $3,000
Fold
Then a re-raise to an all-in - $6,500.

I match the all-in.

THE TOOL turns over:
[4s] [7s]

Who the hell plays an all-in with 4-7?????

But can you belive this....
Flop (ignore the suits, that is unimportant)

[6s] [5s] [3d]

The rest of the hand doesn't matter....

He butthead gets a damn straight on the flop!!!!!!!!!
Now I have to admit, I was REALLY REALLY grumpy and it took ages to be able to calm down I was just that peeved about this particular hand.

THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T PLAY JACKS!!!!!

No he didn't which I think was lucky.
I am sure the 3 was off suit, but if he got an 8 of spades he would have.

Still, why call an all in with 7-4???

That is what annoys me the most.

Try this JJ.

Tonight at the Gully, 2nd hand after 2nd break. I'm BB (have just had split pot, prev hand, all in with AK) and have 3000.

Blind 1000, look down at AQ.

There are 3 callers. I decide to check 'cause 2k aint getting anyone to fold.
Flop comes down AK9 rainbow
I go all in for 2k
fold from next player
raise from Pete in late-ish pos
SB puts Pete all in.
Pete calls.
Pete rolls over A9s
SB show, wait for it..... K8. WTF???????
needless to say I'm not overly impressed when SB rivers an 8

I should add the funniest bit was when he said with a completely straight face and lots of surprise..... "Wow, you guys were so far in front!"

Meh, it goes around, it comes around.

Some times it rolls your way JJ, and others it just won't (see muzz's posts on the WSOP main event for examples!)

To be fair to the, ahem, tool ... he didn't call an all-in. You did.

(I love getting technical and splitting hairs late at night :D)

Still, a sucky way to lose with jacks. There's a principle called "Occam's razor" - which, in basic terms, means that the first instinct, or the most obvious and simple answer, is the best course of action. Stick with your first instinct - FOLD THEM JACKS! :D

Hi ya Scott...
I think I follow you now, are you saying I should have said he went all in and I called that?

I had a larger chipstack and was under the gun, so first to act he was 3rd.

He went all in with 4-7, therefore I stay by the comment "tool" ;)

My instinct is to fold them, but I keep getting told the only way to play them is to raise heavily or to go all-in. I thought going 3x blind would be enough. (Obviously I was wrong).

OHHH and the thing that rubbed salt into the wound, 2 hands later, the bloke 2 seats to the right of me bets and raises to $3,000... EVERYONE folds...
HE turns over pocket Jacks ..............

Why wouldn't you be peeved off at that???????????
(I admit I am still really annoyed)

In all honesty tho JJ, why wouldn't you want to play against people like that? I was most pleased when the SB rolled over K8. I win that hand far, far more times than I lose. I wasn't particular pleased to lose the hand, but I certainly wasn't annoyed with the player - he can keep making those calls until I've taken all his chips :D

It is a bit strange to see someone call with a hand like that, but maybe he thought if he pushed back, you might lay it down?
