Would you make the same re-raise?

Postby Bacon » Tue Aug 12, 2008 11:00 pm

Playing a $1 tourney online.

There's about 40 left, and I'm 26th with half the average stack. (Got $4450)

400/800 blinds +100 antes. Behind the button, I get A9 spades.

#2 min-raises, so I decide to jam. May not be the best time, but I felt it was time to move. The pot had $2800, I bet an extra $4350, I had been playing very tight (I feel) and not played many hands.

SB re-raises to $8700. Everyone else folds. (SB had $15695 at the start of the hand)
SB Hand:
K2 diamonds.

Flop:
Kh Ks 3c 5d 4d and I'm gone.

Now, I probably could've held out longer, and pushing with A9 might not have been the smartest move. But would you expect SB to RE-RAISE here??

We were out of the re-buy period, so I expected a bit better play.

Thinking a bit more, I like that they didn't just call, cos that might've kept #3 in it. The re-raise ensured it was heads up. But still... K2.

No, but!!!!!!! Obviously the SB felt you were fishing or stealing the pots and like most online players they have very little respect for their chips.

You did say he reraised and not went allin in so I assume his bet was pot related as it was grater than your bet and scared the others out.

So, he's isolated the others and made it a heads up situation for your balance with you and was prepared to go fishing as he must have had a good stack to eliminate the other limpers.

As for your magic ace, well it got smashed and hopefully you learnt a lesson in that alone. :) And not being a numbers man I assume it was a 60/40 race anyway with your Ace versus his King.

yeah it is pretty sick, he maybe sensed ur tight image and thought he could push u off ur marginal hand, which it was, just how it goes sometimes, u made a move and it didnt pay off, bad luck

Cheers Bob. I'm not upset at losing, just felt it was a strange re-raise. If they felt I was trying to bluff the pot, then so be it. I'll accept your read on the play, cos it's similar to mine now that 15 minutes has passed.

Their bet was just double mine. But was still half their stack (however, they probably would've got change if #3 had've called).

It wasn't so much that I had an Ace, but "It was suited"

Yeah I love suited cards too and to be honest I really only play and ace rag on the net and sometimes even worse cards than that.

I really hate the ALLIN's in the very first hand and most times I'll just fold. But lately when I call with good cards only to see the wanka has like J4 off and hits 2 pair.

Or, like the other night 4 allins me with the only pocket pair being kings and lose to a 39 of clubs that flushed on the turn.

Or, the unthinking dip stick that continually goes ALLIN every hand and then complains when some wanka calls him with crap and beats him.

Sometimes I wonder whether online poker is really worth playing and then you get a good table and remember why you enjoy the game. :D

Absolutely spot on. Had one last night where the final 4 players (me included) were playing great poker. Respecting raises, good c-betting, checking down dry side pots. I only came 3rd, but it was a pleasure.

i remember playing a 45 runner tourney for nearly 400 hands once, because the bubble went for 40 minutes, and the final table for another hour, with the whole tourney being over 3 hours in total, when they usually go for half that.

i ended up coming second i think, but it was the most fun i have had playing poker i reckon.
