Absolutely Huge Fold

Postby Snapple » Tue Apr 07, 2009 6:45 am

Playing a .50c/$1 PLO game the other night, this was my last hand before I was to leave.
I had $153 stack UTG raises to $3, 2 people call and then I call without looking at my hand, seeing as I had $3 extra left over. To the flop with 6 runners the flop was [9s] [8d] [10d] gets checked around, turn card [2d] gets checked around 1 more time, the river was the [Jd]. 1st to speak leads out for $10 2 people fold, I then decide to look at my cards [8s Ad 3d 4s], I look down at the nut flush and raise to $25, another 2 people fold, 1 person tanks and then folds, it now gets back to the initial raiser who after thinking for about a minute raises to $75, N ow it is back to me I know there is only 1 possible hand that can beat me other player has $200+. I tank for 2 or 3 minutes then tell him that I am only losing to 1 hand, No reaction from the player, so I show him my [Ad 3d] and fold to which he replies to me nice fold and then shows me [7d 9d] for the straight flush.
99 times out of 100 I would've gone broke there. I consider this hand 1 of the best folds I have ever made

It was a bit of previous knowledge of the player and the bet itself which told me to fold. The PLO game was pretty lose but this player was a very good Omaha player. I've been playing poker with him for about 2 years.
Other than that just had a read, I guess.
The funny thing is aginst anyone else at the table I probably would've gone broke.
As to not looking at my hand, well it was the last hand, and I probably would've lost more if I had of looked. Wprked out that I lost the absolute minimum.
