12 left in a 235 runner $5 6max KO. I have just below avg stack.
Blinds 500/1000. Folds to SB, who with 30k behind, limps. I, with 24k behind, go to 3150 with QQ. He reraises to 10k. I shove, he calls, creating a 49k pot, effective for 3rd in the tourny at that time.
Villian rolls Ac8s.
Board: 8h 5d 4h 2d Ah.

Re: GAH
this hand comes down to position i think.
If i read that rightly, you were in the BB and villain was in the small blind.
If you were in his spot (this could be one line of thinking)
villain - oh ace rag in the small blind, not too bad, im prob in front here but ill call, i could raise, but my hand becomes pretty sneaky if i hit an ace on the flop, and if i raise it might look too much like a steal and i have been doing that a lot lately.
villain calls
ALK raises standard amount.
villain - that looks like a steal, ALK has been pretty aggressive (what was your image like btw, thats important here). His range here is pretty large, so my ace is still not a bad hand. if i re-raise i might pick up a decent pot that will get my stack up to average, i know ALK is folding a lot of hands here.
villain raises to 10k.
ALK raises all in for 14k more.
villain - damn damn damn. why didnt i just shove to his first raise or fold. Im not that confident about my A8 at the moment, but can i really fold and leave myself less than 20k? well i probably can, but the blinds are getting high and this might be the time to take i risk. There are a lot of hands that beat me here, but there a lot of hands that im in front of too. This ALK bloke could make the same move with hands like KQ and KJ suited, any Ace or possibly even KT and QJ suited. 55-77 is also in this range and 22-44 might be too, and ill gladly take a race/flip to try for some big cash at this stage of the tourney.
Villian - well i dont like it but i think ill call. damn damn damn he has QQ. hope i get lucky.
Not sure whether Villian went through the above thought processes, but if he did, i think the above bad beat is a reasonably standard, still pretty unlucky for you - the river card sucked, but it wasn't a huge beat. You were still only a 70/30 fav preflop.

Chips were in pre-flop bacon, or is this sneaky sarcasm at work...

My image wasn't aggressive. I had only been moved to the table a while ago, and shoved AA for 9k to a 2k raise (into QQ) to double earlier on. Apart from that I'd taken a few pots down preflop, and I don't think I'd taken any down postflop.

Villian - OH WELL I HAVE AN ACE HURRRR
I should note that the only conrontation I had with villian was when I raised KJo UTG 3.5x (say 2000), when we were 5 handed. UTG+1 flatted, and villian shoved for 19k with AQo, doubled through ATo (the flatter). So he clearly loves his Aces.

I know. It just really sucked at the time.
