Have you ever thought about quitting poker? I have.

Postby maccatak11 » Tue May 12, 2009 10:52 pm

OK this is prob my worst beat ever, at the worst possible time.

Im currently sitting 5th at the waikerie club, in need of decent points to cement my spot.

I have 4500 in my stack, on the button, with 17 players left, blinds 1000/2000.

UTG min raises, its folded to me and i look at [kc][ks]

I go all in for my 4500. SB thinks for a while, and says wft i call, BB goes all in for 6k, UTG folds and SB calls.

So its like a 17k pot, which would have ensured a final table, and some good points.

me [kc][ks]

SB [kd][tc]

BB [th][td]

YESSSS, if i could have hand-picked cards for them to have then i would have picked those.

Flop [qd][jc][9h]

I couldn't believe it. I finished 16th and will probably miss state finals now.

I might quit poker.

(And if anybody gives me any 'embrace the variance' shit i will bust some chops - i will not embrace that crap EVER)

In answer to your first question, no.

In answer to the beat: Ouch.

Well Mac it did cost you dearly, you drop from 5th down to 9th with 20+ points to make up on the last game.

My bad beat cost me top spot at the venue, Krunchie move to top spot with 7 point lead.

Well done Krunchie.

Tales of the shortstack.

Nothing you could do. Shit happens. If you are thinking of quitting poker over that nothing i can say can change it.

Obviously Bruce will have come in to say fold preflop.

calls that you wanted. Cards that you didn't on the flop.

Sick beat, i saw it.

BUT................

Remember when i raised the debate about folding AA on the bubble for money?

I wouldnt do that anywhere else but for big money, if i had state finals on the line, and as you said, you needed to "cement your spot", and you knew the bubble was close, it still is up to you to NOT put all your chips in.

Im not saying i wouldnt have done exactly the same thing you did but, and there's that "but" again, you didn't have to bust out there.

Say you find yourself in the same position next week, on the bubble, and you notice that all the players above you on the LB are out and you only need points to get a Championship (not state finals anymore!) lock, do you make the same play?

well said Todd - it is all down to what you're playing for.

Never. I take breaks now and then, but I've never considered quitting for good (which I assume Macca is referring to).

Have a look at the time of the post, Mac would have been still a bit annoyed when he posted it.
