On holidays & Played a NSW NPL $5 CBI

Postby Bob B » Thu May 14, 2009 4:28 pm

Hi guys & gals I thought I'd just say hello as I was getting Forum and poker withdrawals. Donna and have been renting a fantastic house over looking the Pacific Ocean at a place called Gerringong around 2 hours south of Sydney.

I missed out on a couple of freeroll games earlier in the week but decided to wait and play a $5 game at Albion Park Bowls Club about 40 mins from Gerringong.

First of all let me say "thank god for the GPS" as I could not have found my way around the south coast and back home without it. :D

For starters it was a $5 buyin done at the bar and gave me a plastic receipt that gave to Sonia the NPL TD. She then gave me "one flight" card with "4 aces" and explained that this venue only stamps up for drinks, one drink one stamp.

The card can only be used after the first break in two ways. One if your still in then you get an extra $1k. If your out your card goes into a redraw where Sonia called 3 names and only 3 names to come back into the game with $1.5k. If your not there when the names were called "bad luck". Last night only one guy was there at the redraw the other two missed out.

Around 46 runners with a $3k starting stack blinds were $50/$100 30 mins level. My table had a few characters on it who loved to straddle bet right from the very first hand which I found it to be a very new experience for me in a cash game I might add.

Come the first break and I'm sitting on $7.5k plus the extra $1k when we restarted. The $10 S&G's got going straight away with a $1.5k starting stack. As players got knocked out of the tourney or the other S&G's they'd get another one going, LOL. Pretty sure NPL took $10 the rest was prize pool for 1st & 2nd.

The blinds were $300/$600 and I was up around $15k and we were in the points already. Wow, I thought that was quick and the blinds were still so low with 15 runners.

I built my stack to $35k but that unfortunately only lasted 3 hands. Trip 7's to a flush, pocket Jacks that made 2 pair but lost to another flush and finally I was down to $1400 with my SB and had J2 that went nowhere. Finished 9th and had a great night out.

Off to Tweed Heads tomorrow to visit the Bínlaw and the casino, LOL. Catch up to you all when we get back on the 23rd.

That sounds like a pretty crappy structure.

Hi there AK. We just got into Grafton a couple of hours ago and decided to stay with friends over night so I jumped on their computer, LOL.

Not sure if I'd call it crappy M8 considering the starting stack was $3k and only 4 stamps to gain the extra $1k! Which in your case could have been 4 Cokes or a meal and a Coke at one of their other venues. ;)

The difference with their 4 stamp card compared to NPLSA is that you don't need to fill it before the first break. So, the card can only be used for either the extra $1k or a chance of being recalled after the first break.

I forgot to add to my first post that the prize pool is fixed for first, second and third at $200, $50 & $25 irrespective of how many runner there were!!!!!!!! Not too bad hey?????

Most if not all the punters had carded up pre-game or did it on the first break to either get the extra $1k or a chance in the redraw. Those who were out gave their card to the TD who mixed them up and drew the three names from that pile. She then came to each table and exchanged our completed cards with a $1k chip. So simple NO grey areas.

Getting knocked out didn't seem to bother them as they'd pay their $5 or $10 to the TD for a S&G game and were into it as soon as they had a table set up and 8 runners. The prize pool for $10 S&G was $50 to first, $20 second $10 to NPL.

As I said in my first post, the time and games moved fairly fast with the initial blinds @ $50/$100 and the blind levels at 30 minute intervals.

It was a great night, no yelling, no arguements, no crap play and well worth the $5 invested. Had I known that I could have bought cheaper drinks I wouldn't have saved a little more instead of giving drinks to the bar staff, LOL.

How's your NPL CBI game going AK, have you cashed as yet?????
