You're a Bunch of Factors

Ok, I don't normally do this, but want a few opinions on this one:

Final Table in a 60+ runner live tourney. You come to the table 2nd chip lead. It gets down to 5 players, you are under the gun with [7s7h] . You have 200,000 in chips with Blinds 20,000/40,000 with 2,000 ante. Chip leader is 2 to the right of you (but the two of you have about even stacks at this stage). You call the 40,000 BB, UTG+1 folds, chip leader shoves for 200,000 on the button (this is the first hand he has played on FT including when he was in the blinds). Action folds to you.

What do you do???

Call.

200K = 5 BBs.
I would have shoved UTG personally rather than limp call.
After making the call of 40K (leaving me with 160K) By the time that action was folded back around the pot would have been offering nice odds to call for a heads up flip. the would have been 140K in the middle (SB, BB, limp 40 plus your 40) plus an additional 160 which is the amount to call.

thats 2/1 on what I would expect was a 50/50. 10-20% you may have an over pair (but thats generous for 5 handed) More often the not it is 50/50 but hopefully (for the 77) you would have jammed A-X (with a kicker lower than seven).

Must agree with the boys though i dont like the limp from UTG, should have been a shove from the get go.

Next time with less than 10 - 20BB's (depends on size of antes as well) it's an open shove.
It's all about the fold equity!!

We had a similar discussion at Para Hills Jo: If you are going to commit to a hand with a short stack (and marginal holdings) then really your only move is to put them all in as this move may entice a fold 25 - 45% of the time.

And with marginal holdings I would prefer to see my opponents folding and me simply increasing my stack by 10% or more.

You would have to ask yourself if I fold will I get better cards in the next 2 hands considering Blinds & Antes will eat up approximatly 50% of your remaining stack.

Folding the next 2 hands also will leave you a bit over 70k this puts you in a shove/fold situation on any remaining hands, best to get it all in now.

Agreed.

Shove pre. You made their decision easier by limping. Or fold - if you don't want to commit all you chips that hand.

I pulled this from a hand I played recently, but in reverse. I was the chip leader on the button. I had A9 (nice read Scott!). UTG seemed reluctant to even call the blind (and by just calling showed me their hand was probably weak), so I shoved thinking there is no way they could call there considering I hadn't played a hand on the FT until then, and they still had plenty of chips behind if they fold their weak hand.

I like you guys would have at least pushed 120,000 into the pot in their position instead of just call, as I don't want the other chip leader in the hand.

As it turned out, they did call my shove and the 7's held, so they could argue that their limp prob paid off (as I wouldn't have played if they didn't limp), but just wanted to see what you guys would have done in their position (having played it the way they did), to see if my shove was really the right play there.

I can see your points, and that is why I asked the question as I can use that info when in that position next time.
