effective stacks are about 13k (mine), blinds are 300/600. guy comes to the table with about 20k. plays a few hands, i had never played with him before but my read was that he was very aggressive just from the couple of hands that i saw.

he opens for 2400 in mid position

i look down at [js] [ts] on the button, and i decide to call.

flop comes down [6c] [7h] [9d]

he rather weakly leads for 1200 into the 5700 pot.

what cards do you put him on here, and what do you think the correct play is?

When you say leads rather weakly, is this also based on his physical actions? Love playing live here as you can usually tell when a weak bet is actually weak in this position. Lets assume it is, so Im putting him on AT-AK and therefore I want to raise.

You had 13k - 2.4 = 10.6
Pot is 6.9k

Perfect spot for a jam if you think he can lay down A high. Else, you can try and bet 2/3 of the pot at around 4.5k and leave yourself 10bb if he jams and you feel a fold is in order.

Really dependent on your "feeling" of his ability to lay down the hand, but one way or another we're raising.

Range for villain - 99+, AJo+, AQs+

His open at 4x (without history) lends me to believe he is strong (but slightly scared of playing postflop).

Weak lead (as always) means now has air and is c betting light trying to take the pot or value betting set/overpairs.

I think you call flop in this spot and re evaluate turn.

yep it was a pretty big tell, when he raised preflop, his voice was loud and strong, and now when he puts out the 1200, he doesn't say anything and his hand sort of stutters a little bit.


so basically i put him on something like AJ-AK.

I was watching his hands at that 1200 bet. They were shaking. That told me he was strong. Until he made the bet. 1200 was soft as. I knew he had missed.

Most players will still stack off with a strong ace on this flop. If it's a weak tell I still call and look to play a bit stronger on the turn.

This doesn't really seem like a question you would be asking us. You read him for a missed cbet, you know what the right action is, act accordingly.

the question i am asking is, if he has air, but it still beats you, and you are not 100% sure if he will fold, is it better to call and re-eveluate or get it in.

Agreed, because players are much more likely to call a shove on the flop with two overs compared to the turn.
