1 More thing,
Its not gonna happen every tourny but heres a scenario
Blinds are 3000-6000, and Ive got 17000, I have also played the clock perfectly so I get small blind before they go up.
So I put my small blind in... now i have 14000... Now I know yellows are getting chipped up next guess how much chips its gonna cost me to see a flop provided nobody raises?
ZERO
So I see a flop with my 2 5 or whatever it may be.
Not illegal to do this, but we need to have ways of preventing it.
Cheers,

No !!! Chip Race makes it fair for everyone...You see it as losing but if your the one that gets lucky in the Chip Race then your gaining chips
I would rather be level at 15,000 each than him win the chip race and suddenly me being 5,000 behind after being leading him by 3,000 before the "chip-up". Unfortunately the 5000 chip-up hasn't been an issue for me so far.

They only do this at the 5000 / 10000 level as it would be impossible to do it at the 100/200 and 500/1000 levels.
Unless you guys want breaks to last ages so a single TD can do a chip races on every table?

Re: Chip Ups & Final Table
I dont really see an issue with the chip-ups or races anyway. if u are short stacked going onto the final table, u are relying on a hell of a lot of luck to stay afloat anyway. chipping up or down isnt gonna make that much of a difference.
the problem comes when there are 3 or 4 short stacks that all get chipped up 3 or 4K. this does seem unfair to the person that is dominating the tournament, and suddenly has to play against another 10K worth of chips that appeared out of thin air.
chip ups seem to be the fairest method of resolving this.

Re: Chip Ups & Final Table
I just love how people dont want to follow official poker rules.
I can just see it... someone qualifies to go to Vegas and they do a chip race and the player asks to get chipped up instead.
Would be a funny sight.

Geeze i should read this forum more often.
This is the first I have heard of this.
So does that mean if a player has only 1000 in chips he goes in the chip race and can get knocked out without even playing a hand?
I gather its in the rules but I haven’t read the whole lot yet.

No, if you are under 5000... you get 5000. You cant get knocked out of a tourney in a chip race.

Garth Kay wrote:Ok let me put it this way.
You have struggled all night, finally make the final table, you have 15,000 exactly.
Another player has 11,000 but automatically gets chipped up to 15,000.
That player all of a sudden has an additional 4,000 more than he did at any time, we are not talking about chipping up 100 to 500, or 500 to 1000 but a massive denomination, more than your starting stack.
Now say said player moves all in, has three callers and triples up.
BANG! He/she now has 12,000 more than he would have originally. Huge difference.
The issue here is putting too many chips on the final table and it been severely advantageous for several players who begin to flaunt the rules, such as leaving 11,000 in the stack, knowing that they can shoot of a free 4000 bet before the final table or chip up and know that they will get that money back at the chip up.
Chip races are apart of all tournament structures and are conducted at casino's worldwide. It is the fairest system that can be put into place.
Alright, good point. Chip races do a great job of removing excessive amounts of chips from the table, but, no matter how fair it is, or how many casino's use them, I'll never agree with players losing chips. But I'll learn to deal with it.

Yes, I would. Because for the rest of the night, that's how it goes. You're always chipped up (not saying we should have chip races all night, I'm totally against that idea - it doesn't work at any level except 5000/10,000). Chip races make it fair for anyone that doesn't lose chips. So overall you've got a fair system.
I agree with zemond that had chip races been introduced at the start of the season, they wouldn't be a problem. Its new, it'll take people a little while to get used to, but don't be too surprised if you've got some detractors.
