Thanks Garth,
Button just had his cards in his hand No Motion towards the muck.
When SB mucked her cards & was starting to rake in the pot.
Thats when he said If I call I win the pot, Calls & turns over A 9.

Thats when the table "people" not in the hand start going on about poker etiquette. The only player to not have a go @ him was the SB.

I find it strange how those not involved in the hand go on about poke etiquette.

The ruling process is this:

1.) Did the button indicate a fold by actioning towards the pot?

If the answer is YES then the pot is awarded to the Small Blind.

If the answer is NO then the player on the button is awarded the pot; BUT the pot is only three blinds worth as the SB player retracts her all in bet and only has to call the BB.Do we all follow that?

Wow, really? I would have thought the bet stands? Otherwise it leaves an opening for people to shove, see that someone might call, muck and take back their chips......

Considering the player was raking the pot then it was clear that a misunderstanding occurred; yet to be decided if it was a gross misunderstanding, which changes everything once more.

It all comes down to the details.

Is it fair to allow the player to lose their whole chipstack of a misunderstanding?

Yeah, I know what you mean. But fact is that the SB has made the action and should be aware of what is happening on the table. I don't think it really qualifies as a mis-understanding, just someone not paying attention to what is happening around them.....

this to me looks like a similar situation where someone covers their cards with their hands and someone else doesnt' notice.

cards should be in front of player at all times and clearly visible to everyone in the hand

Side note; If a player folds out of turn, does the player who the action IS on have any responsibility to call up play? Quite often a player will wait and see who else folds out of turn (everyone follows the initial folder) to gain more of an advantage. This could be preflop or post flop (After a bet)

I had a situation yesterday where a very new player put out exactly double the call, so the blinds were 400/800 and they carefully counted out 1600 put it out, then when asked by some idiot " was that a raise" they said no just a call, then realised their mistake and took their chips back

when i sugested that the bet stands as is, i was howled down by the table that we should be nice to new players and that we are not playing for sheep stations

at this point i got the TD over to rule, of course the same way as my sugestion, but after the event i was told by every player on the table that it shouldnt matter and that my "playing by the rules " ruins their good fun

In the heat of the moment people make mistakes; noone should ever be punished for a mistake.

And once again we return to the statement that all rulings should be made in the interests of all players and in the spirit of the game and should result in a ruling that is satisfactory to all parties.

agree with garth, if it is a new player then i will 100% be fine with them taking their bet back.

if they keep doing it though then i think you can call them out for it.
