5.2) and finally don't wait ten minutes and think I have left and talk up big how you're going to take me on and meet me at a venue and when I call you out again you run and hide behind your brother, friend or father's skirt - cause 90% of the time he is as big a twat as you are.

Happened week before last Marc. Guy decided not to show up and sent his father down to talk to me, and he said two words, tried to act tough and then left rather quickly from the venue.

I might be fat and unfit but you don't work in country pubs for most of your life without learning how to handle yourself and take a few hits along the way.

In all honesty, I hate and despise those that do not treat others with respect, I dislike bullying and those who look for "easier" targets to make themselves feel better. I honestly believe capital punishment should be introduced for paedophiles, rapists and those who commit cruelty to animals; nothing sickens me more than those who prey on innocent people or those who are unable to defend themselves.

Boy do we attract some absolute tools playing online.

I dont care if it a hee haw player or not there is no reason to get narkey, light hearted banter is good fun.

But I'm with Garth on this one.

As he (and the rest of us in 888pl) should be. Some behaviour on here has been remarkably horrid of late.

Thanks gents - I would like to extend on David's comments. 888PL is a community and it doesn't rest on my shoulders to stamp out this sort of behaviour. As players and members of this community you decide on the environment and the atmosphere you participate in.

There was a young single mother being abused by two men online about two weeks ago, these guys were following her from table to table and tournament to tournament for almost two hours; only one player made any comment for these guys to cease their activity and that was one line. There is something wrong with humanity and our society when our predeliction is to bury our head and not get involved when something dishonourable, distasteful or inappropriate is occurring. I'm not talking about changing the world but perhaps if enough people had spoken up and demanded that these players desist and shut up the results might be different, if enough players stood up to swearing and abusive comments online then perhaps we wouldn't require this conversation.

As members of this community, YOU decide and allow what happens in your environment, I and our TC's cannot be everywhere at once and it is up to individual players to monitor and remind players of our code of conduct whenever possible.

In the end, are you an innocent bystander when you do nothing and allow it to happen? Does not involving yourself absolve you of any responsibility as a law abiding and considerate human being? In my opinion; in some cases not all the guilt rests solely on the perpetrator when an inhumane act takes place and there are witnesses who do nothing.

Nice post Garth. "Whitty Banter" is one thing (and I know more than a few fellow 888pl players who love this), but outright and continued abuse is another thing entirely.....

Thank you Garth. This is why I like 888 so much. The rules are enforced to ensure that everyone gets the best out of there poker playing experience.

Recently my son was playing a game with another league (whose name I shall not mention) in which he was threatened with violence for playing bad cards. I have 3 sons and this son is the most placid who has always treated players with respect on and off the felt and has never abused anyone. He ended up calling me to pick him up as the players in question were waiting for him to leave so they could"beat him up". My other son wanted to go and fight (he is not so placid :( ) but instead I picked my son up and wrote a letter of complaint to the league ( a first for me as I am not one to complain usually). The next week I attended the next game for this league and ensured that those who had watched and thought it was funny understood just how deplorable there behavior was. Coming from a small poker community I knew them all and managed to shame each and everyone of them. Not once did I have to threaten violence but I did ensure that they were all aware that I would not tolerate such behavior and to this date we have had not more incidents.

My point here is that with 888 the TC would have ensured that this incident was dealt with promptly on the night. At the beginning of each game they announce that you have to respect players at the table and there right to play there cards they way they want to. I have seen them sit players out if they believe someone is being disrespected. Other players respect this stance and tend to ensure that no player is treated badly at the table if there is no TC around. This is why I recommend 888 to all of my friends starting out in poker as i know that they will have a great night, with a wonderful diverse range of people in what is usually a warm friendly environment ( there is the occasional tool but they are always promptly dealt with).

I think we all need to remember, even when we are the other side of a computer screen, that we are all human and as such deserve to be respected. Many would not say some of the comments they do if you met them in venue. Some players do play very bad, even me sometimes, but instead of abusing them try keeping notes on there play and take there chips next time you meet them. It is a more satisfying feeling and nobody gets hurt.

Again thank you Garth for your strong stance and keep up the wonderful work team 888

Sorry I was in the middle of playing as I wrote that response so didn't see your next one. I agree totally with you Garth. We all need to stand up to players when they being abusive to others as especially online there will not always be a TC or such to witness the events unfolding. I feel very sorry for this young lady and I think the offenders need to be named and shamed. I bet they would not dare to say anything to her if they were face to face.

Further to the above, why not go with "name and shame?".....

Yeah this is getting pretty bad, but as for standing up for others: quite often they will also turn their abuse to you. Although I still advocate doing so, just mentioning that sometimes you can just shift the abuse by telling them to quit.
It happened to me during very 1st season, after telling a player to politely shut up their abuse, they also turned it on to me.
Also threatening to come and 'visit' me personally (although good luck trying to track down a player from online!)
I did end up having to 'chat back' at this player, and he finally backed down, even apologised to me, LOL after he actually believed some of the stuff I wrote (not all of it was BS, just some). I know it was a he because we swapped 'ex-military' stories, until he finally backed off (and the nature of some of his threats were very 'male', shall I say). But he still kept on at the other player

One thing that will definitely cut this down is that some 888 tourneys do not allow observer chat, or chat once you have been eliminated. Maybe revoking chat 60 seconds after elimination is an idea? Thats enough time for legit "good game, gl all" chat, and the like. This seems to be a time when players get really bad, when sucked out on and busted...

Also remember people, we can always click onto the stats or info tab and disregard the chat. Not for the whole game, just while the idiot blows of some steam at you... Not the best solution, but one none the less.
Does 888 have a 'Disable Chat' feature for individual players? I like sites that allow this, and to ignore observer chat....

I don't really think 'name and shame' will have the desired shaming effect for such abusive players though... Not to mention most of them probably aren't on the forum, or the 888PL website often?
Image ...11.59% of bad beat stories are just misplayed hands ...
