If you are going to enter a competition be it a bake off or a poker game, it is up to you to know the rules, not for the organizers to repeatably post and mail the rules to every person entering the competition. The rules are well laid out on the 888PL site.

I have seen the argument, Ohh I didn't know therefore the rule doesn't apply to me, ignorance is not an acceptable excuse.

Not that I am going to the GF but Garth has a point if the word gets out to the general public that there is a $500 buy in to a estimated $200k game you will get swamped by people wanting to come and take of your hard earned prizes.

my 2 cents..

man who runs behind car gets exhausted.

If the idea is to make sure that someone who does not participate in the league cannot play, you can achieve the same thing by reducing the criteria for the GF to:

Be registered as an 888PL member prior to the last GF and have played at least 1 away game since the last GF.

To be perfectly honest I could go down to Crown and tell people there's a +EV tournament, all they would have to do is reg in 10 Away games (and not necessarily play them) and they would still qualify. So if outsiders really wanted to, then they could play.

The argument for 10 away games also assumes that players in the 888PL are soft and so outsiders can come in and exploit them. This is far from the truth, there are a fair few league players now who have achieved great results outside the league in major tournaments. I think that a lot of the people who make it the GF are the ones who are more than just poker hobbyists and would probably be fine with outside competition anyway, especially if it boosts the prizepool.

I know as it stands I have to play 10 games to play in the next GF but I am just opening up discussion here. I totally agree with the 10 away game criteria for the Semis. But for the GF, in a player-contributed prizepool, I see no good reason why there should be any qualification other than being an 888PL member and playing at least 1 home/away game.

its a lot more effort to register for 10 games rather than 1

and to say that the 888pl grand final isn't a soft field is just hilarious.

sure there are some that have had good results, but in general, the players are horrible. (i am counting myself in this as well)

I'd day the field would be the same as similar buy-in casino tournaments. Take the JHDS event at Crown.

Have you played both Trishan to say this?

I haven't played a 888pl GF so I can't comment on that. But the standard of play from the Semi's to a Crown tournament is different & I imagine the players to be similar with the GF & Semi's? Maybe I am wrong here.

You have to be joking Trishan. No offense to our players, but play is terrible across all areas, but substantially worse in 888PL tournament.

You forget that I basically spectate these, and whilst the 888PL GF is a decent tournament and I do see some decent plays and players I am quite confident that in the current structure against those players I would crush this field and my EV on this would be an ROI of about 100% with an ITM rate of about 33%.

Whilst in Crown Major events it would be an ROI of about 50% and an ITM rate of about 15 -18%

Way off the mark Trishan, because no Crown Reg would go to the trouble of registering for 10 away events (I have had Andrew, George, Peter and a few others all ask about our GF event) and they won't go that extra step (that's a good thing for you). But they all played in the APL events because they only needed to win a Satellite to get in.

Play the 10 away events, support the league (that offers you the opportunity to play in this type of tournament; large $$ prize pool exclusively for 888PL members) and we don't have an issue.

Tell me, if I go to check your history now, will I find that you have played 10 away games already?

I think I have maybe played one away game and it was on a weekend. I would love to play in venue every night and support the league as much as others do, but personal circumstances just doesn't allow for it.

The last 6 months were hectic. I usually started work at 8AM in the morning then had uni till 6 or 7 and by the time I get home it's already 8PM and really no opportunity for poker. You probably noted my absence on these forums and people in the online games certainly noticed my absence for a prolonged period.

It's only been recently that I have finished uni and have taken a break from work that I have an opportunity to get back into it all.

In fact if you have a look at my venue participation for all time, you'll find my most regular game was on a Sunday.
