As has been said in the past - the top 50 leaderboard is a bonus for the players who play a lot of NPL games.

50 out of 700 is like 7% of the state finals players. Why is everyone so worried about 7%?

This will equate to 3-4 people in the prize money as qualifying via the leaderboard.

The main way to qualify is to be top 5 at a venue. It's as easy at that.

The leaderboard is a bonus entry avenue to players who want to play a lot of games and qualify via this way.

As soon as this discussion stated again this immediately came to mind... "oh it is 2 weeks to go and people are realising they can miss out".

The NPL isn't forcing anyone to try and be part of the "7% group". Just pick a venue... play all 10 weeks... and qualify in the top 5.

would it be possible for the top 10 total averages leaderboard to be made up, just so some people can have their ego hit?

it would not mean anything else, but it seems like this would be enough for some people.

I have seen the list you're asking for, benny the cunt. It is definitely a more than interesting comparison. The list was the 'pure' top 50 list, and had the adjusted rankings based on pure averages for the top 300 or so. From memory, the no.1 on that list was, as the time, ranked 141 under the current format. The minimum qualification of games still applied, ie 15, so those players that had played not many more than the minimum games needed and placed well frequently were obviously higher. The average games played for the top 10 was 22.6. Only one player in that top 10 had played a very high amount, with 50, whilst the next highest was 26.

A bragging rights leaderboard is a great idea methinks.

I heard a rumour once upon a time that this might actually happen before Hell freezes over :P
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

yeah well, i was trying to find a way that will stop the people whining - but that will never happen. :D

what about this one.

if someone averaged 35 points a game for instance, which gave him/her the best average in the state, shouldnt he also be on a venue top 5?

if he is not, then thats his own fault - too bad so sad. you gotta support the venues that are, after all, paying for us to go and play poker.

people might combat this with the "i need to work some nights" defence - please refer to the "8 games on a weekend" post to see where you can play when you are not working

pretty sure there would be close to 15 poker timeslots in a week. surely there is a single one of them that can be made regularly so that the average will actually count for something and finals can be qualified for.

just my thoughts...

Instead of the top 50 Leaderboard making State Finals, how about we collect all the Poker Passports for the season & draw out an extra 50 players from there. The more passports you fill over a season (the more you support NPL & it's venues), the more chances you have. If you're name is drawn out more than once, you can give a seat to a friend, or re-buy when you're knocked out. This way at least everyone has a chance if they dont make top 5 at a venue & can't play 80 games a season.

Just an idea.

;)

I would like to add at this time that although Matt is a member of staff, and a senior one at that, I would like to stress that his comments and opinions are of a personal nature and in no way reflect upon the thoughts or plans of NPL management. ;)
