You shouldn't really divulge personal stuff anyway, since no one was wondering. You don't deserve to be attacked of course.

Should a staff member be allowed to play at venues

NO

BUT

If the chiefs in charge offered a points system for staff members and an incentive then i would say YES.

I have seen too many staff members muck around and raise and reraise with any 2 cards to try and make a point.

I know the playing style of some staff before they became staff and the difference is extreme. I feel its because they dont have to points chase.
But with an incentive prize etc for staff i guarentee their styles of play would change from reckless to true form.

There are staff members that do play seriously and i respect them and enjoy the challenge of playing against them.
But the ones who just play recklessly i avoid like plague and refuse to sit at their tables

Off duty staff playing in regular tourneys can win venue vouchers, cash and other prizes cant they?

Wouldnt that solve the problem then? TD's have something to play for other than pride, no more reckless play.

I guess that could open the door to people saying that working TD's will favour off duty TD's, but i dont think that will happen.

just want to say i stopped reading at about page 5 becauase well it kinda all got a bit silly now didn't it.

The forum was set up by some of our dedicated players to discuss opinions on NPL and it also created a medium between players and staff which has been so valuable. . Whether it be all good praise or things that people are not happy about. It has always been done with the best intentions, as well done in a respectful manner.

This has now become a argument of who said and who did what and well to be honest all a bit high school. People its fun first and foremost lets not forget that fact.

An understanding of why people attend NPL is also needed not every player goes there for the same reasons and understanding this will help when something happens that you dont always like. Some want to take it cut throat serious, some want learn the game in a non presssure surrounding, some want to improve their game, some want a laugh with their mates and other love the social scene of it and poker isnt the most important thing.

Understanding of a players motivations will help make it more enjoyable please trust me on that.

Now to staff playing. Alot of people say that its not taken serious and we do things like 3 raise on air. Well you should see a staff game. Im sorry if we dont call, check down. There are two ways to win a pot in poker.

1. have the best hand at showdown
2. Outplay the oposing player and push him off a pot.

Personally whenever i play NPL i go to have fun but i never disrespect a player by deliberately trying to Dword them, i intend to play as well as i can but wont let that get in the way of a good time.

As has been stated earlier putting on a red shirt doesnt make a TD a gun player but understand that espiecially alot of the original staff members had played the game for a quite a long time before it was popular or avaliable, and do have have a strong game and a mass of knowledge about the game.

So when they make a move they know what they are doing, its not upset anyone it is made with the intention of taking a pot, creating an image and setting moves up later in the game.

Nobody can ever get angry at the player who is creating the action in a hand, that being said pushing allin preflop for 3k at 25/50 is making action thats just bad play. But raising, continuation betting, check raising, 3 or 4 betting, trapping, floating a opponents c-bet and all other moves that can be made are genuine poker moves yet if a staff member does them its instantly "oh they just dont care".

Just my opinions on some of this.

hugs to all

Great post, Matty! Very well written and a great explanation of what poker is all about. Hopefully this helps some people.
