NPL Game Rules Review

Hi, could I suggest that NPL "Game Rules" currently posted on npl.com.au be updated. For example, "Chip race - In no NPL tournament will a chip race occur." Chip races now occur at final tables. "Misdeals - to be advised." This area is a source of confusion when dealing stuffups occur. "Rabbit Hunting - No rabbit hunting is allowed." Suggest need an NPL Glossary of terms so everyone knows what the term means - these glossaries also often contain common slang terms for various pocket pairs etc. "Raise Requirements" - I think the word "If" at the start of the last sentence needs to be deleted.

i don't think it was ever intended to be a complete guide to the NPL rules, rather a useful starting point
just ask your TD if you have questions, most are pretty happy to help

The rules that are currently displayed on the npl website are that of new south wales which currently has a diferent governing body. There is a comprehensive rule and ettiquete pdf for south australia avaliable on this forum.
While at the board index, on the left of screen you will siil an npl rules tab, download the pdf and it should be able to answer any of your questains regarding our rules.
As always tho your local TD should be able to answer any questains that may arrise
cheers

Thanks for alerting me to the rules on NPLSA Matty. I would make the point that we use NPL.com.au frequently for venues; results; leader boards; etc and so in my opinion the rules posted there should be a central board of rules applicable to all states. In other words, why not replace the flimsy rules on NPL.com.au with the detailed set of rules on NPLSA.com? Now, to the rules themselves. I'm interested in Section v) The Showdown rule 5. "Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that was eligible to participate in the showdown, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. ... " Scenario: I was dealt in but folded after the flop. Three players continued betting to showdown. Player A shows his hand, and the other 2 players B & C say "Too good" and throw their hands in face down. I want to know if Player B was bluffing to give me knowledge of how he/she plays. Under Rule 5, it seems that I have the right to see what B's hand was. This is contrary to my previous understanding of the rules. Could you please advise.

Players are entitled to muck their hands at any time - even at showdown. As I understand it (this question has been asked on here before), this rule is only meant to allow you to check that players are not colluding - not to gain information, if you want information, don't fold you hand, and pay to see theirs
I also believe you must be in the hand at showdown to request what you are talking about - but I could be wrong on this point.
edit: I was wrong about that point
rules wrote:Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that was eligible to participate in the showdown, even if the opponent’s hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins.

u can do it, but it is massively bad etiquette, and apparently u will get kicked out of casinos if u abuse this rule, so the same would apply to NPL i would think

Ill try to explaint is in the simple way as im pretty sure this has been discussed before.
Basically NPL in N.S.W. and the NPL that You play here in S.A. are actually two different companies. We do use their website for our leaderboards and news etc but have no control over the rules that are posted on the site.
As far as aking to see a mucked hand, you are correct that you can ask to see a mucked hand at showdown if you had participated in the hand. This however would only be applicable if you believe there was collusion or cheating involved not just because of curiousity.
Hope that clears a few things up in a really simplistic way
cheers

Yep this has been brought up before, from memory... Garth gave an example where 2 players went to the showdown and one of them folded after seeing they had lost.
The winner of the hand asked to see the losers cards because well... they paid to see them!
Unless I'm mistaken that meant both sets of players cards were considered live again and the player who won the hand could theoretically still have lost it had it turned out nobody saw the straight or whatever other such possibility.
Garth made it fairly clear that you are a tool if you do this. It WILL upset someone.

It actually happened in event 5 on the final table.
Can't remember the exacr hand, but Marlon was firing out on every street and getting called.
Marlon moved all in on the river and after tanking for 5 minutes Peter mad the call.
Marlon instantly mucked his hand.
Myself and Manny asked for both hands to be tabled, the dealer said he didn't have to. I called over the floor and stated what had occurred, the floor agreed both hands had to be tabled as it was very suss, especially at this stage of the tournament.
Marlon was bluffing his arse off with some rag hand and Peter had paired his Ace on the board.
But always open your hand and always wait for the person who's turn it is to open.
Short story but I hope it gets the point across. Asking for the sake of it is very poor form.

In my understanding of the rule at a casino, the only time yuo can ask to see someone elses cards, is if they have shown someone else or you have paid to see them.
The instance Garth has recapped is well within the rules as the action was with Marlon to show his cards, as he mucked anyone can then request to see his hand ie; paid to see.
In reference to the other situation, if the action was with Player A to show their cards and tables there cards if Player B or Player C cant beat them then a player cannot ask to see their cards. They have declared that they cannot beat the other hand and may muck their cards face down.
This is just my understanding of the Casino rule in Adelaide it may vary in other places.
