Just a quick poll as this is becoming more popular with TD's

Postby skyhooks » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:34 am

Should a small blind penalty be enforced for swearing at the table.

I think it is a good initiative to deter players from having a tardy mouth however should it be enforced when the consequence for the action isn't in the official rule book.??

TD's discretion Vs Rulebook....

Maybe Garth is the man to see on this one...

That's a decent question.

Normally I'd be inclined to instantly say 'rulebook' but if the TD is paying attention they might spot a reason for someone being sworn at. OK, they're still swearing, but it could be lessened to 'aggravated swearing' LOL

I've got a GREAT example but it's too early on a sunday for that hehe
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Eh, if someone continues to swear, aggressively or not, then you should small blind penalty them. Aggressive swearing? Big blind penalty.

A few "bad" words? I think its ok.

At the end of the day it's pub poker. You're going to get some swearing and 'loud-mouth' behaviour regardless of what you do. There are some limits but you have to take some of it in your stride.

i think if the swearing is directed at someone, then it is always a no-no, and should be penalised. aggression is something that someone should never have to face, regardless of the setting (man thats deep and meaningful there :D )

i think if its oh F*** when u get sucked out rather then ur a F***, then its pretty harmless, unless its constant.

TD has discretion i think.

Different areas/venues = different demographics. TD's always have the discretion to penalize anyway they wish, although I do not condone this practice I trust my staff to act within the bounds and to know what sort of crowd they are dealing with and hence the practices and penalties that need to be put into practice.
The reason this sort of practice is not in the rule book is that we do not wish a blanket policy put out for swearing. Any aggression or swearing (verbal abuse) directed towards a fellow player should and will result in expulsion from tournament.
But dropping the F bomb when you have just been rivered for the fourth time that night (when you have been a 75% fav or greater on the flop) is within normal protocols as long as you don't shout it across the room (or garage as was the case Saturday night).

Gday guys,

I heard about this and thought its a great idea, (but only at certain places)

And I can tell you right now, i always have trouble with players at settlers,
what I'm going to do this now at settlers. 1 warning, 2 warning, 1x big blind, 2x big blind etc... If the player cannot afford it, they are disqualified.

Thats gonna be my system.

Cheers

I did come there once James, and notice that. It was quite full on and you would have to really be strong with them.

Good luck!
