Email received from 'aussieplayer.com'

Firstly I don't have a clue how this site got my email address...
But they sent me an email about exclusive $1000 freerolls on Full Tilt for NPL members.

I thought 'cool, but we are now 888 PL, maybe someon;es abit behind the times...'

Originally I thought the email was from full tilt, but then noticed it from 'aussieplayer.com', so I click on the email link and get sent to a page looking very 'NPLish', even the exact same chips used back then, just with a FTP logo in them... I notice at the bottom of the page it has links to live games (only listing ones in NSW though) so i click one, and get taken to a page identical to the old NPL site! Only this one only has 'Entrances' for QLD and NSW on the map of Aus home page, so I click QLD just to see what happens. Again, the page is IDENTICAL to the old NPL site. Even has the same login section up the top. So I type in my old NPL ID (got a good memory) and low and behold I get 'Welcome Aaron..........'!!!!!

So I click next on 'Account details' and sure enough it has everyithing 888PL has on me, even my 888PL online screen name! i took a screenshot, as you can see...

So, get to the point Aaron... Was just wondering what happened to the old NPL website and data it contained then, if this site, which apparently is only for NSQ and QLD has all my info that I only gave here? (althought when it WAS the NPL)...

Has it split into to 2 companies, and retained the info? what is going on?
I am not complaining in any way, hey they sent me the password to an 'NPL only $1000 freeroll!' which of course I will play, be interesting to see what happen if I cash, being from SA and all...

'NPL' as we know is was always 2 separate companies. Operations in SA/VIC and NSW?QLD have always been separate, although both companies operated in pubs under the same name, and shared a website (this is my understanding anyway). So when the SA/VIC version of NPL became 888PL the other NPL up north continued as usual.

As to what happened with the data, not sure, but its probably more likely that you accidently signed up to aussieplayer.com a while ago and forgot about it as opposed to NPL/888pl giving/leaking your info to third parties (which is illegal isn't it?)

Just a quick answer, as I am in a presentation right now.

FHG (us - 888PL) licensed a poker product from NPL in NSW. This gave use the right to use their branding, website, POS, Marketing tools and administrative tools to distribute and operate the NPL brand in SA, VIC and TAS.

This means we did not own the brand nor the IP (intellectual property) or databases involved.

When we cut our ties and fully rebranded in the 888PL guise we severed all business ties with NPL in NSW. As such NPL still had possession of the SA/VIC/TAS databases. Hence why we have had to start rebuilding our databases from Jan 1st 2010.

This email is obviously a marketing initiative direct from NPL in NSW and they are marketing directly to all of their databases, obviously they are really pushing their affiliate deal with APL.

OK, thanks...
I didnt realise you originally licensed everything from NPL... Or that it still existed, until this email...

Not that there is really anything for them to gain, but I have just been researching into making AJAX applications more secure, and hence into its security holes, and it made think perhaps the site was bogus, as Site and off-site script forgery are major security concerns with AJAX!

Doubtful as its the 888PL thats affiliated with 888 online.
Missing games came up 1st season, maybe things have changed, but it was manual results entry if memory serves, so maybe its still an issue of backlog?

Well thats not what I thouht u meant, obv thought u meant points not appearing in leaderboards...
How could this NPL change you online details at 888? we never give them (anyone but 888) our passwords? But you are completely right to be worried if whole accounts have gone missing, or do you still have an 888 account (with any $$) and its just the points you have won that have gone?
Where was your information changed, on 888 online or the 888PL?
I cant think why another site would want to steal points gained from 888PL online events, as they are only useful to 888PL players, and should only be transmitted from 888 directly to 888PL anyway....
And how could points be 'stolen' anyway? that would require access to the results database of 888 no?
