You're a Bunch of Factors

Hi there Garth I have a couple of questions that you may be able to help me with.

I got home late tonite and I decided to see how people were going in the OC tournies and noticed Bacon was chatting (railing) with the table but he wasn't playing.

to my surprise I tapped in some letters and found I was also able to say hello and gl to them too. WTG I thought, 888 have finally made the site a more user friendly site again.

My praise was way, way, too early only to find the standard 888PL games were still blocking the railbird chat. I tried a mixture of the other games still running and it appears the OC games were the only ones open to chat!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there any chance of the 888 people making all the 888PL games available to railing chat????

Something else came up that seemed to occur at the begining of last season too was continuously dropping out and not being able to re-enter the site.

I had been playing 2 cash games so it was important for me to get back in ASAP, so I tried rebooting numerous times, then decided to remove the program completely and reinstalled via the 888PL site. Still unable to get back in after 40 minutes I eventually gave up.

There were quite a few complaining last night for the same reasons (dropping out) but it wasn't happening to me and thought it was their provider until tonight.

Hopefully it's only a temporary problem and can be resolved ASAP.

Personally I prefer it if an observer can't chat.

Saw HEAPS of players suffer from dropouts, def something wrong there.

Yeah I just tried again to no avail Pete.

I still enjoy just dropping in saying hello to the guys and gals or merely responding to the player that knocked me out and why I thought I was in front at the time etc.

Just out of curiosity where are you playing now I'm looking for a new venue???

I just got into 888 (12.40am) only to see a totally new screen that I'll need to try and decipher, LOL.
Plus I cashed in one of the games too, LOL

Sometimes i agree, sometimes its good to have some rail chat. Atleast this has a specific option to turn on/off in the chat options...

But I had lots of probs with the chat box jumping to the top, which i was told ingame that turning on dealter chat would solve, but screw all that junk willing up the chat - still a few bugs for 888 to iron out obv. You'd think they would get this stuff right...

Love the observer chat as it allow you to rail friends and for them to rail you. Drop outs are the most annoying thing in online poker and 888 tends to be the worst for me at the moment ( although have had a lot with full tilt this week). As for reinstalling the program pretty standard advice i think as you need to rule out as many things as possible before contacting support. Try calling your ISP and saying your internet is not working. First step they will give you is to restart your modem and computer before they will investigate further. Even try and report a phone fault and you will be asked to try another phone in the socket.

The drop-outs were a huge problem last night!

And my other tourneys were affected too.

I tried customer support and got the standard....please try reinstalling. I shouldn't have to do this so often, and I know this isn't Garth's problem, but in a way it's a bit hard to promote OC if people are going to run in this problem continuously.

Don't even think of doing that unless you actually are unable to connect to the internet. The problem we're talking about here wasn't people losing connection to the internet, it was 888 software stating it had lost connection yet everything else was working just fine.

From what I can gather, and from my own experience, the issue was largely only with 888 software and not anything else. There'll be some where it was actually their internet connection, but I believe that's a minority.


If you can bring up any website at all, or check your email, or whatever else then you pretty much already have ruled out anything relevant excepting internet security software which you can always pause/disable to see if it's that or not.

Rcon and I had one instance last night where the 888 connection dropped out on us, but i was surfing the net fine at the same time so it was obviously just an issue with the 888 software.

I've never had a drop out of more than 3 minutes on 888. Yes it sucks but there is not much we can do from the customer end and usually patience is the only solution.

I'm not sure re-installing the software would make any difference at all in connecting to a server. That would only really be helpful if you can't connect at all. i.e. can't log in, can't access the lobby etc.

Its the standard solution that you get from customer support.

Patience is hardly something that I have as a player if I'm in a tournament and I know that I'm going to get chip-raped whilst being disconnected. It's a big problem when you're getting to the pointy end of a tournament.

But again, it's a 888 problem, not one that is localised to our games I would imagine.

But as with any customer support it would be a case of someone writing in saying.

"Oh Noez! I can't connect to 888! Plz help!

Default response.

"Try re-installing the software. Then get back to us"

If the software is working then it's working. If there is a connection problem on 888's end, how is re-installing something on your end going to help?

I should say I know very little about how this all works. This is using my flawed logic and my extensive experience with 888 support and their extremely generic replies to very different issues.

As for not having patience, I understand that, but what are you suggesting as an alternative? If there is nothing you can do to change the situation, why get all upset over it?
