With the advent of online video multimedia such as Youtube or even community access TV, could we see major 888PL events being covered and presented on the small (tiny) screen?

No.
I don't like doing things by halves (much) and I would never be happy with a half arsed production. The costs are astronomical in putting together a high end production.
Also there are other issues at play that may make it difficult to broadcast poker or our brand.
But in saying all of the above there are some announcements that will affect the poker industry forthcoming.

I think you could do something on a budget and not have it look awful.
Perhaps seek out a production company with a shared passion for poker and are happy enough to break even and have a production for their 'reel'.
Manufacture a table ala 'the big game' (with flat glass to lay on to see hole card) rather then a WPT/WSOP which would be more difficult for the amatuer player.
All graphics and commentry done post production, if you get this part right any failings on the set/action will be forgiven.
I think something like this would be great and really propel 888pl to the top of the oz poker leagues (if it infact is not already).
Give it a go!!

i can see where garth is coming from here - if it turns out great then it will be AWESOME, but if it turns out a little crap then it will be much worse than what the good one will be good. so it becomes either too expensive to make sure its good, or not worth the risk of going for someone cheaper.
gmatical your idea of finding someone with a passion for poker has merit, but the problem will be finding those people - poker doesn't really have mainstream appeal in general, so its not exactly going to "add to the reel" of a small company.

Base budget for a half arsed self run attempt would run us at least 100k.
20k for table, 15k for hardware. 5k for post production work. 10k for misc and distribution.
