Lost everything when my PC had a meltdown in the heat last week. In the process of trying to recover 5 years of PokerTracker Data plus 3 years of emails but not looking good. At least it gave me an excuse to get Windows 7.......

Seems it was one of the hard drives went bung and corrupted cpu/motherboard....I'm no good with the tech jargon. My buddy is the tech specialst, he has maintained my system for the last few years.......I know its bad when he can't recover files easily.... My house has really poor ventilation when I'm not home, I'm pretty sure this didn't help.....

Had backups of all my work stuff but not poker stuff. So many hands tracked over the past few years; all gone. Thinking of swapping over from PokerTracker to Holdem Manager now that I have an excuse, but that's probably for another thread.....I tried playing the other night without PT and it left me feeling naked and uncomfortable! I know I can download it again as it is registered to my email but haven't got around to it yet ( read: cant be bothered setting it up atm).

I've completely dropped Windows as my regular OS now.

Switch to Ubuntu 10.04 which is a linux based OS. Has everything I need and it's all free!!

It's not completely noob friendly though as you do need to do a log of command line operations to get things working, but there is a very big forum community and loads of support channels.
