i have been looking into it, and gundog is right, you can now roam onto voda's 3g network.

checking now to see what the data charges are like for iphone

Pardon my bias, but I wonder why the iPhone is so popular, what has it got that the other dont have.

When I decided to upgrade my phone I considered the iPhone, but to me it came up short and lacked features I desired, So what can the iPhone do that my Nokia carn't ?

Ease of use.
I've used email and internet a LOT on MANY phones, mainly Nokia/Symbian based.

I then borrowed a friend's iPhone for a few weeks and it sold me. Using email, and internet - was almost on par with using it on my Netbook. I would hardly use my Nokia for email, let alone Internet.

It doesn't try and do too much with the interface which is where it wins as well. Things are simple, and it's hard to screw up.

I use so many apps, that are actually USEFUL too - it's great.

As far as negatives...

You'd notice less battery time than on the Nokia. This can be increased by turning off certain things though which helps a lot. But after a while you just know when you have to charge it, and it doesn't become a bother.

No front camera - so video calls won't work (at least as far as I know?)

No Bluetooth push, so you cant' send a file via BT to another phone (unless it's an iPhone I beleive).

That would be the negatives as far as I'm concerned

Dave is right, I use the iPhone for email/Internet ALL the time, and I never did on my previous phones. Safari is a pretty wicked inbuilt browser (although I hear there are better one's). The apps are so awesome, there are a ton that I use all the time and some every day. We had to figure out a payout structure for a tournament once, I went into the app store and found an app just for it. I've got a blind timer, tally counter (great for props, ie red/black), Pokerstove...

eBuddy is awesome for IM, groups MSN/Facebook Chat/etc into one group, so much easier. Google Maps has a GPS counter, as I showed you the other day. There's an app called Consume that can show you how much data/credit you've used so far AND it can be set to any broadband service around (I have it set up for my Adam acc at home).

The camera is pretty crap. I have an app called Camera Genius which isn't too bad (zoom, anti shake, burst, timer, guides) but that doesn't make it that much better. There's no flash, which sucks. Speaking of flash, as you probably already know its not on the iPhone. The battery is TERRIBLE. As Dave said, you learn to work around it though.

Correct me if I'm wrong the iphone was only network assist gps, which means no network coverage no gps. However Tom Tom provide excellent gps software for the iphone but I'm not sure if you can connect a bluetooth gps mouse to give you coverage whilst out of network coverage.


My N97 and N95 both have with choices of Bluetooth, Network Assist and internal GPS, Internal is Ok but not startling in performance due limited no of channels, Network assist GPS can be very expensive depending on your plan, using a bluetooth mouse gps is excellent ranging from 12 to 32 channels, the more sats you can connect to the better accuracy.

Another great app for my N97 is Microsoft Office is it available for iphone, I also like the availability of the full qwerty keyboard.
