are you on a legacy plan that they don't sell anymore hans? i can't find anything like that on the telstra webiste

i can see a cable plan that gives you 12 gig a month, for 69.95.

if this is the one you are on, you are definitely getting ripped off, as there are MUCH cheaper ADSL 2 plans out there.

but hey, if you are happy with the product you are paying for, then thats the only thing that matters really

and another one.

There are cheaper options out there, but I still choose to stay with 'node - i need the net to be there when i go to use it.

here is a question that i prolly should be asking on whirlpool or something instead, but there seems to be a fair few geeks on here.

i was wondering whether anyone knows how i can get ADSL2 when i am on a RIM? i have heard that telstra will do this, but then throttle you to 3MB, but i DO NOT want to go with telstra.

is there a way to get off a rim by paying for the extra infrastructre or another way?
i am with adam at the moment, and i want naked dsl with either adam or i would even switch to 'node as well if need be.

Nope

By the way, depends on what you mean by "on a rim" - there's different rims, and different connections to them.

You can't pay any extra - it's usually the architecture for the street/area that is causing the issue. Same with areas like :

- Northgate
- Mawson Lakes
- Many others

Golden Grove has pair gain which is also not nice.

All you can do is apply, and reapply, and reapply. And, find out exactly what the issue is - see if you can work out the path your house takes to the exchange.

If an ISP could get you connected, they wouldn't throttle you on purpose, if they can get on you, they will.

Sometimes it might be lack of copper to the house/street/area. Scott was in Clearview a while back and had to apply a lot of times before he got on with ADSL2, which probably happened because some copper became available.

I have a guy at work here who built in Northgate and *still* has ADSL1 because of the RIMS they put there.

Maybe, find the RIM and steal a car - then run into it - then they have to replace it ;)

Probably won't work either unfortunately as Telstra will want to get services back up and running as quickly as possible, and the quickest way is usually with something similar to what was there before, i.e. another RIM :(

My boss has pair gain and cant get broadband either.

He's gone with virgin broadband which is a wireless box with a sim card and uses the mobile network. His home phone plugs into the box instead of the wall (works like a VOIP phone i guess). I think its like $60 a month for all local calls and broadband.

You could easily go wireless, just don't expect super awesome speeds.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
