You're a Bunch of Factors

Had (most of) a weekend away from poker this weekend just gone - my partner and I went with some friends to go diving with cuttlefish in Whyalla.
Thought some people might be interested in the photos.

Nice pics Rcon. I seen a show on the weekend about the Cuttlefish @ Whyalla and it was very interesting. Apparently they are a totally different species to those in the other Peninsular. Did you know that????

I was pretty sure the Giant Cuttlefish are native to a few southern areas on Australian. I know they also get them out along the great ocean road somewhere (my geography is crap).

We went a little earlier in the season this time, but apparently they are dying off a little earlier than usual this year, so I might have to go back again next year, but in late may/early june, to really see the mating frenzy. Not that we didn't get to see anything this year, but I'm told we still haven't really seen massive action (pun intended)

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere or was told that after they have their way with the females they die, is that true??? Coz, I was also under the impression they have caught some that are really old, therefore they might be poofter Cuttlefish, LOL

If you look closely at the photos, you'll see some of them are turning white. Those ones are on the way out.

There is one in there in particular, who is on his last tentacles (you can see the bloody stumps) and is particularly white.

I'm pretty sure they last 2-3 years, so they only get to see 1-2 mating seasons. Poor bastards
