Brand New Day (the leaving post pt 2)

Don't know if this will be a long post or not either way cliff notes at the end.
As some of you may be aware, at the beginning of 2008 i moved to WA to take up a position at the Karratha International as, at first, an assistant bottleshop manager and then the bottleshop manager. In this role i managed to boost sales and profitability, and did a few things that got me noticed by a couple of people. After 11 months in Karratha, i had run out of emotional energy to keep going at it, plus missing family and wanting something of a social life, i went to Broome.
In this time, one of the old sales reps from the bottleshop asked for my resume so that he could pass it to his Field Sales Manager. The old rep was going to Darwin on a transfer. Fast forward, Brett moves back to Melbourne, and didn't think anything more about it. Main reason i am a pretty laidback kind of bloke when it comes to that.
Throughout this time NPL has changed to 888pl, Garth has moved back to Victoria. Crown Casino was still there. Brett also had some savings and a big craving for a gamble.
. Not to mention the chance to catch up with friends and also family again.
So after a few stints at Semi Finals, the first Grand Final, uploading of Online results, running some events in Metro North, and Metro South East. Brett was finding that life was pretty sweet. I had met some pretty awesome people at my Venues, who enjoyed poker socially, and also a bit competitively, but always had the spirit of fun. Finally got to met some of the forumers in person. And also got to met some former workmates in new positions, and also some of the new staff members that had joined on in his absence from the company.
In October however, a phone call changed all that. The old rep called me up again and asked if i was interested in applying for his old job in Karratha. Thinking that i could get away from it at anytime and what was the worst that i could fail. I started down the interview process whilst still doing my poker rounds.
The first interview, had me worried as the interviewer called my by a different name as we hung up. Not thinking that it was a good sign, similar to shouting someone elses name with your partner in bed, i thought that it would be over. A week later i found out i had advanced to the next round of interview. With the Field Sales Manager and also the HR consultant.
This was going to be a little confusing. We had myself in Victoria, the HR in SA, and the FSM in WA. So a 3 state, 3 time zone, 3 way phone call. Suprisingly it all seemed to go swimmingly, with my name being right, and the only downside was me being a little too honest in answering a few questions.
After that interview, i then had to do a psychometric test, Gauging my personality, and also my morality. Followed by an interview in Southbank with two of the Heads in WA of the company. This was slated for a 1 hour interview, which lasted approximately 30 minutes and at one points me at my end with them muting the sound. Naturally walking away from this going oh well. I got this far.
After the last Grand Final, on the Monday after the celebratory drinks on Sunday/Monday morning. And 2 hours sleep, i was called at 4pm with an offer. I listened to it, and i did advise the gent from HR that i was hungover in Adelaide. He piped up with the great idea that i could pick up the contracts in Magill on the Tuesday. Fair enough, travelling back to Melbourne its only a small detour.
So where does all this lead.
I am leaving the company yet again. Hopefully this time, as much as i want to come back because it is a big part of my social and working life, for the last time.
The company that i am going to be working for is Foster's Group. So if you have ever drunk a Pure Blonde, a VB, a Carlton Draught, even a Strongbow. Then thats what i will be selling. This decision was never going to be an easy one. Even in the last month i was saying that i could always get out of the interview process and stick with Full House Group and the upcoming oppotunities that are arising from the expansion and also with 888. After speaking to family and friends though, they set me on the path of Foster's as an oppotunity that is too good to miss.
So April 12th will be coming around as my first stop in Southbank in Melbourne. Followed by a week in Perth, and then i will be off to my Territory in WA. Look up the Pilbara, and that is the majority of my area. From Coral Bay/Exmouth all the way up to Port Hedland. From Karratha to Tom Price, Newman, Pannawonica and Paraburdoo.
To go through the people i would love to thank.
Garth Kay - Well, he is my brother, Always has been supportive of me in everything i do. Just like i am with him. Missing out on him making the Final Table at the Vic Champs is always something that will annoy me, so hopefully this Deepstack Series we can do some damage and go heads up, or at least one of us Final Table an event just so we can celebrate it one time.
Adam Hancock and Michael Ratnik - Under acknowledged presence in Victoria. A lot of the effort that they put in is always amazing. I hope that they can continue to lead Victoria in the right direction. Always remember the pie.
Sarah Franklyn - Too scared to say anything.
Thanks for letting me be on the live reporting team, and being your Grand Final gopher. Hopefully you can find someone who is equally as awesome as me for a replacement.
The 888pl Vic Team - Seeing some of my old players now working for 888pl is always good. Means they got the same passion that my Brother and I did, and love the game. Seeing some of the new blood that i have helped train is also interesting. We have a strong team and with the amount of competition that we have i am certain we can only go from strength to strength.
The Murrin Clan - Christ almighty, David Scott Andrew. Your all awesome. Nuff Said.
Nathan Butler - 2 4 of clubs. Seriously. Still remember that night. Its pretty impressive to see where you are now from where you were then. I can only be excited to see where you will grow to next. Keep smiling, keep working hard. And remember you only get out what you put in.
SA Team - Wow your guys are all pretty cool. From the team event early 08, to the recent grand final. Seeing the same faces and the same passion in them is freaking awesome. Dakota, Caleb, Glyn, Moose, Larry, Lincoln, John, Alex, Andre, Grant, Tim, Norwood, Old Porter. Between the hair styles, the driving styles, the xbox wars, you guys are amazing. For the ones i left off on this list. I still can't remember all your names. Even after all this time i haven't met you all. Your hard work makes all the difference and i hope it continues in the years to come.
Aaron Kleeman - Man Crush love.
. Honestly hope you get that big win soon. Keep on working on your game. Learn to control your tilt. Stay cool.
old-man daryl Westley - Honestly old man Swanky, if i had never met you in person, i would still be going who is this devlish man of mystery. Then you added me on facebook. So it was more like, Who is this partially sexy man of mystery. Then you posted pics of Lisa Lee and it was like Bastard.
. Good luck with mistress poker, i will be introducing her in WA for you.
.
Mat Rochford - Rcon, Christ i still remember the time in melbourne, i could not for the life of me remember your name and i thought calling you Rcon would be weird. Your also awesome. Honestly hope that karma finally smiles and finally gives you enough to make up for all the bad beats.
.
Bruce Klemm - The random pm messages. Always got excited when i got the email saying you have a private message. Then it was from Bruce. And scary as it may seem, i do understand a lot of what you say. When you learn to get past the folding part of the game, and get past the rock and find the tight aggressive player, certain you will become a very impressive force.
.
Bob B - Larger than life in everything you do. Definitely one of the characters on the forum, and having never been at a game, definitely think at the tables as well.
The maccas - Matt only met your briefly but on here you seem cool. benny the cunt your a good player, hopefully your still improving your game, and i wish you the best and hope you and AK go headsup in a big tourney. I think the sledging and the poker when that happens would be on a massively epic scale.
The Village Belle Crew - St Kilda, This is just a fun venue to host, Great people, great times, and hardly any major incidents unless a chair is involved. Will definitely miss a lot of you from there. Your good people. Patrick - definitely will be a rematch at the PLO tourney.
2 outers for rollz? Chris - Keep at it, you will get there in the end, perseverance is the key to everything.
The Edwards Coffee Loung Crew - Its a love hate relationship. I love going there, i hate the venue when i am leaving.
. You all love playing the game and i don't fault you at all. To Christine, Michael, Sam and Bill, thanks for being so friendly, i honestly wish i could do more, you remind me so much of my family when we were working in Hotels. It is uncanny just how familiar some situations are.
.
The OC - You guys enjoy the game and are content to just play. No stress, relaxed, decent poker. Honestly would like to see you guys go forward in your poker careers.
To everyone else - you all make up the diverse group that is 888pl. It is amazing what everyone brings to the game of poker. Some of the stories of people helping each other is fantastic. Its a game that brings everyone together, and it was one of the first ideals that got me so interested in the game early on. I hope that through the years, some of you go to on to further your poker careers, or even just to take a big score. Always remember where you came from though, and don't forget to give back as well. We were all beginners once with no clue that 7,2 off was a bad hand.
Cheers Always,
Brett Kay.
