Birds of Tokyo Last night

russ and i made the trek down to the thebby last night to see birds of tokyo, and i have to say i thought it was bloody awesome. we got there a bit early and lined up, and it was worth it, because we were centre stage, 3 rows from the front.

except for the obvious karnivool fans behind me that tried to mosh to every song and push everyone around, it was great. the stage setup was pretty basic, but it was good enough.

the worst thing about the show was that it was all ages, to there were lots of SAFM teeny boppers who didn't know any other song except for plans, but other than that it went down really well. silhouettic and white whitch were highlights

special mention has to go to silversun pickups. if you have never heard of these guys, you should check them out. they were absolutely killing it - so much so, that i actually wanted them to play longer before birds of tokyo came out.

they put jet to absolute shame, who were shocking support for powderfinger last week.

i have found a few youtube clips of last night already - in these clips you can see russell's head sticking out over everyone elses, in the bottom right of the screen. :D

i took a video myself of wild at heart, the video came out great, but the audio was horrible, it was so distorted you couldn't really hear at all.

killer show, but i am also gonna be on the lookout for silversun pickups as well, they were great live.

first time i had been there for a concert (other than the chaser stage show) and i thought it was excellent.

agreed, i was a fan of silversun pickups already, so i was excited to see them, and they absolutely killed it. i think it helps when the crowd are interested, which from where i was standing then really were, and they seemed to be appreciative of that.

their songs had a bit more of a harder edge live, probably because the guitars are a bit more distorted, and that made their songs translate really well.

I love Silversun Pickups, I have been on the fan train for quite a few years now.

AMAZING live! Their drummer is of the hook!!

up until i booked the tickets for BoT, i was only a casual fan of silversun pickups - i had heard 5 or so of their songs, and liked it, but never really listened to their albums. but when i knew they were support for BoT, i downloaded their stuff and had a listen, and i would have to say that they are one of my favourite bands now.

they were really trying hard when they were playing as well, which was great - and the crowd were giving them something back.

the lead singer brian has a really good stage presence, and the chick on the bass was great, because she wasn't one of those tool bassists that pretends they are the star of the show. but she was killing it as well.

i looked to see whether they were doing any side shows while they are here, but there is only one in melbourne, so that is a bit disappointing. but i would definitely go and see them headlining, they were awesome.
