Re: Australian Open
Let me remember someone:
benny the cunt loves the tennis right? Yet, really there's only 4 men that are a realistic chance of winning the Grand Slams.
But, he doesn't like it when only 4 teams in the EPL are a realistic chance??
But I get that tennis is a knockout game, and in any given day, a Suarez-Omaha can beat a Venus Williams and keep on going.
It the FA Cup of tennis

Re: Australian Open
There are some similarities but yeah mostly different.
One similarity would be how everyone likes to see an underdog do well.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Australian Open
Bacon, so very very wrong.
Tennis has 3 or 4 favourites to win a grand slam, but others still have a chance of winning. Unlike the EPL where a club outside the top 4 will not and cannot win the premiership. Its more like a cup competition where it is more open.
Think of grand slam winners like:
gaston gaudio
albert costa
thomas johansonn
petr korda
goran ivanisivic
juan carlso ferrero.
These players at the time were pobably not even in the top 10 lines of betting, way different to even cup competitions in soccer.
But heres an even more obscure list of grand slam finalists in the past 10 years.
jo-wilfried tsonga
fernando gonzalez
marcus baghdatis
mariano puetra
guermillo coria
martin verkerk
rainer schuttler
alex corretja
arneaud clement
magnus norman
todd martin
marcelo rios
malavai washington
Tennis is anyones game my friend, and its no different in this australian open.
(Having said that, since Federer won his first grnad slam title at Wimbeldon in 03, 18 of the 22 grand slams have been won by either Federer or Nadal)
I love sports trivia. its possibly even above poker as my favourite thing in the world

Re: Australian Open
The FA cup is anyones game as well macca
Pretty sure that's the comparison Bacon used, although again I think he's just stirring the pot!
Just in recent history...
Portsmouth and Cardiff City. Cardiff aren't even in the EPL.
Liverpool v West Ham. West Ham were a joke at that time but still played their part in one of the best FA cup finals ever.
Man Utd v Millwall. Millwall aren't in the EPL either and probably won't be in the near future.
It is fair to say that the tennis as well as the FA Cup has a kind of 'romance' with a team/player that's over-performing and beating teams/players they wouldn't regularly beat. Everyone that is neutral gets on board the giant-killers bandwagon and just loves it when they do well.
It's also fair to say that's where the similarities end.

Re: Australian Open
What's up with Federer?
Flicked over to the tennis yesterday and saw Federer was down 2 sets to love!
Good to see he came back though.

Re: Australian Open
This was interesting during the Federer v Berdych match.
This is from this article.
Berdych became a convert to the anti Hawk-Eye push, saying it shouldn't be used if it isn't perfect.
"Why it should be on the courts if it isn't working," he said.
"It should be working all the time."
I can sympathise with him, but it's still better than the umpires so by his logic the line umpires shouldn't be there trying to make calls with something as inferior as the human eye. Which I quite agree with but he seems to be suggesting something worse is actually better. Silly as.
