here's the stats on the men:
191 games.
94 were 3 sets = 49%
54 were 4 sets = 28%
37 were 5 sets = 19%
4 retirements

In the first 3 rounds, it was the same percentage spilt.

I'll do the women's now

i may be wrong in saying that though

i tried to find some evidence, and their website seems to focus more on the women than the men, but i guess thats assumed being a shampoo range anyway

women:

2 sets 93 games = 49%
3 sets 93 games = 49%
5 retirements

But in the women's, the 1st round was 66% 2 set matches, then the 2nd round was the reverse.

In conclusion, in both men and womens, half the games are finished in straight sets. The mens just go longer cos of the best-of-5 rules, giving an extra variable for results.

so really its just a perception about the length (or lack thereof) of womens games

please ignore my posts, i've realised i've double counted, and fucked up

50% of mens went straight sets, but only 39% of womens went in 2.

Hmmm...... more info needed - how many of the womens games featured sets where one player didn't win more than 2 games v mens where <= 2 games.

Would be interesting to know how many of the womens matches had score lines similar to 6-1, 6-3 as opposed the the mens in a similar range. Not that score alone determines entertainment value, but it is often a reasonable guide I would have thought.

She did and actually picked up a 3 year $1 million dollar deal less than a week after she got knocked out.

what about total game time per set? thats usually a pretty fair indication of the closeness of a match

i.e you can have a single break in a set that is won 6-3, but it can go forever because its very close

or you can have a 7-5 set take not much time at all because someone is dominating with their serve and just can't break the other player.

time spent on court maybe a better comparison

u see a williams v an unknown finish in 40mins, even the final against Safina was 52mins compared to a 5hr mens final
