I was going to guess he saved it with his legs (not watching it on fox) and yep, that's what he did according to the blog.
He's a freak for pulling off saves after going the wrong way!

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

GO AUSSIES!!! 1-0 WOOO HOOO
(assist was by wilkshire unfortunately). I was lucky enough to watch the game on Fox and it was a pretty even contest, Iraq had plenty of good chances (hitting the woodwork once, and forcing schwarzer into numerous saves).
Great game though, Harry 'Special K' Kewell played a great game, and was actually most dangerous in the air (he scored our goal from a header), but player of the game for me was a toss up between schwarzer and emerton who were both great. Culina also played really well.
It was also great to see Bruce Djite come on with 10 minutes left and do pretty well, he could have even played longer given that scotty mac had only limited influence on the game. It was tough for him as the main man up front as its not really his position. He will benefit for sure when Jesus Kennedy is back up front with him.
Good game though.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

We're really in the box seat now as far as qualification goes. Top 2 go through to the next stage so we'd have to choke like Port or FREMANTLE to not make it now.

Iraq vs Australia is LIVE on Fox Sports 2 at 1:30am (Adelaide time) Sunday morning.
It looks as though some very Uruguayesque tactics are being employed.... in short...DIRTY FILTHY SCUMMY tactics. News story can be found here.
They need to win or they're proper screwed.
If we win then we're through to the final round of qualifying! What this means is.. we have the best chance we've EVER had of qualifying on our own merit (as opposed to being lucky over essentially 2 games).
The final stage of qualifying has 2 groups of 5 teams and the top 2 from EACH of those groups goes through to the World Cup. That's FOUR spots available. Should we manage to be crap enough to only come 3rd then we would still have the chance to play the 3rd placed team from the other group and if we beat them over 2 legs (home and away) then we would play the winner of the Oceania group (remember that?) which would be New Zealand.... and we all know who's winning that match.
The qualifying process can be found here.

Not wrong!
There's nothing wrong with making it all about winning, but fair's fair.

Re: 2010 Football World Cup Qualification
Weelllllllllll there's a couple of interesting results!
We lost 1-0 to Iraq courtesy of a great shot on goal from..erm.. one of their players
but what makes it interesting is Qatar beating China 1-0 as well!
We still top the group but Qatar are now level with us on points with Iraq only 1 win behind and China only 1 draw behind them. Mathematically everyone can still qualify!
Our next match is against Qatar (over there) so if we win that we're definitely through. I think there's only a home game against China to go after that.

Qatar v Australia
1.30am – 3.30am FOX Sports 3
Sunday 15 June 2008
I'll be fast asleep in 'preparation' for an assault on the state final
So in the absence of my standard shouting at the tv......
C'MON YOU AUSSIES!
