Pete. i think you are missing the point.

With the new system teams DO not play each other equal times each, BUT they play the same teams twice and the same teams once each year (NBA is a comparison here) so teams know what they are up against each year (i used the example of the crows playing 6 top 8 teams from last year twice this year).

Finals is top four from each conference.

Its probably not the most ideal system (ideally teams would play each other once, or twice) but working with the current format of a 22-25 window in which to play the minor rounds, i believe its the best system.

You are right that choosing who gets into each conference will be the hardest bit to resolve, bu im sure the AFL could work it out.

The AFL can't work out you shouldn't give Matt Thomas a week suspension, can't see them working out divisions

when the 17th and 18th team actually come into the comp, I feel the AFL will create 2 Confrences.

Each confrence will comprise of 1 team from SA, WA, NSW,Qld and 5 Vic Clubs, ie Gold Coast, Sydney Adelaide Freo Carlton St Kilda Kangas Hawks Essendon ..... Lions West Syd Power Eagles Dees Cats Pies Dogs
Tigers.

9 teams per confrence play each other twice,
1 special game per team, Call it derby/showdown what ever :-
Crows V Power
Eagles V Dockers
Lions V Gold Coast
Swans V West Syd
Pies V Bombers
Dee's V Tigers
Cats V Hawks
Dogs V Kangas
Blues V Saints
An addition 3 inter confrence games played caluclated on final positions at the end of the season.

final 4 system for each confrence with confrence champions playing off in the grand final.

or dont change except only program 1 derby/showdown for each year played on the ANZAC or Queen's Brithday weekend it will be a shared home came for both sides with 50% seat allocation for both clubs.
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Regardless of merit - it won't happen.

Actually, I think you might be :)

And that's why :)

Correct. Once at home and once away is the only way that's truly fair.

You've seen the way they do the draw now, right? I'm sorry but I lol'd at this :)

For there to be a level playing field (and thus have a true reflection of who should be top of the ladder and playing in the finals etc) the 'competition' needs to have everybody playing each everybody else the same amount of times, and for that to be an even number so it can be split evenly amongst home and away, doesn't matter if it's 2,4,6, or whatever (lol imagine 6 times how long that sesaon would be).

Until that happens it's impossible to consider it a 'fair' competition because there'll be advantages to other teams such as what regularly seems to happen with Collingwood barely playing otuside of Victoria.

Maybe people are just used to it and have subconsciously accepted it and/or given up, but I can't subscribe to that sort of thing being ok.

There may as well be a handicap system!
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Ok im not trying to come up with the fairEST competition structure, but definately a fairER and more transparent competition within thw allotted timeframe. Never have i said that my system is better than playing each other twice (which simply wont happen with an 18 team comp)

I understand you weren't claiming that, but I'm trying to get across that it should be the aim.

If you don't aim for it to work 'as it should' then you have automatically doomed it to fail in what's it's objective should be.

Fairer IS better, but it's still a fail.

Gary Ablett - 46 possessions and 3 goals last week.

This week - 36 possessions and 1 goal with a quarter still to play.

The man is a freak.
