I'm hardly an expert on this, but isn't the new club the maggies?

I thought lil'old Port grew too big for the SANFL and moved to the AFL, then spawned a local team as part of the deal with the SANFL administration to allow Port to move to the AFL.

FWIW, I hope they survive, but it really does seem like the SANFL has set the maggies up to fail from the start - poor business plan, and I just hope the govt doesn't go all populist and bail them out!

Correct ... Fitzroy !! :oops: Who were once known as "The Gorrilla's"

Who did infact merge with the Brisbane Bears in 1996 , creating the Brisbane Lions who where Est, in 1996 , using the history of Fitzroy and the Bears !

I do agree with the teams using the history of other teams , but in a sense i look at it as when that team started .. eg. Power 1997 , Lions 1996 etc..


Which team is the most successful in the AFL ? , seeing it has only been around since 1990 .. ;)
When choosing between the 2 evils , I like to choose the 1 i haven't tried yet !

Don't start the competition name debate. Its silly.

It isn't a new competition. It was renamed to reflect the more national direction and influence the VFL was heading.

that should start a new club at that place where 888PL has held semis in the past. out near Port Rd. They seem to have a decent enough facility and there is an oval there that looks OK. bacon could give you more info, he did a nudie run there.
Could be a great place for a new team......

Its likely someone will take over the magpies. They may have a season out. Just dont be surprised to see them back within a year
