Re: Port Magpies
Well seems like 2010 is ok for them for now.
White knight has rode in, now they have to sort their carp out and fix it.

Re: Port Magpies
he's a good bloke
not sure how much he's offered, but its for this season only
hopefully by then the power, and crows to a lesser extent, can work out a better AAMI stadium deal and hand the port club back to the magpies

Re: Port Magpies
my 2 cents worth.
Bucky Cunningham with Alan Scotts monies get Pt Power into the AFL they get a Flag.. Cunningham leaves Alan Scotts monies dries up Power struggle and the Maggies flounder as their resouces are spread too thin... Picard throws them monies ...me thinks the Maggies r History..
The future is AFL to PAP credit they are there but...not a Power....
which AFL team has never lost a Grand Final ???

Re: Port Magpies
Irrespective of the parentage of both Port Adelaide Clubs they both have a unique position you either love'm or hate'm theres no middle ground.
As for the decision of the SANFL and the commission, they both got it wrong the merger should have been allowed and the only reason it wasnt allowed, is the Crow's stated openly that if it went ahead they would want a team in the SANFL, and that had the other 8 clubs running scared.
The Crows have been marketed very well and with a team in the 2nd tier comp, their ability to attract even more preimum sponsers, and possibily dominate the SANFL for many years and that scares the hell out of the other 8 clubs, and thats real hidden adjenda of the 8 other clubs.
If anyone thinks that the SANFL wont be affected by the expansion of the AFL is seriously putting there heads in the sand, GC and WS will see 80 to 100 more players needed for the AFL where will they come from SANFL, VFL, TFL and WAFL ( which is already a basket case) also minor state leagues from the other states.
Ask your self this if a reasonable player at country level gets invited to play for a SANFL team starts in the 2's and get $40 dollars a week, the next season that bloke get an offer from a county club in Vic offering $750 a week and a job for him and his partner, what would you do? so that begs the question where are the clubs going to get their players to sustain a quality compertition?

42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

completely false gundog, the merger was never about the football departments, only the administration and marketing side. have you actually read the paper?

it has nothing to do with it gundog. the sanfl clubs all pay fees etc to the sanfl, which then get re-distributed. so in effect, they would be propping up the magpies.
now if they dont think that the magpies and the power will be financially successful, why would they support it? they would be throwing their money away.
if there was a hidden agenda, why did the sanfl comission also vote the merger down? surely they are independent of the interests of the clubs.

this is a good point. it will lessen the strength of the sanfl.

this happens already, so i don't think it will change that much with the addition of the new afl teams. in fact, it might make the sanfl clubs work harder to keep their reserves and junior players.
