David Hale copped a near identical hit vs Carlton (friendly fire, Jordan Lewis - but when all know how hard Lewis's hair is, it almost KO'ed Monfires a month ago!).
Hale returned to the field.
Just sayin.
P.S. are you sure the booing wasn't your own fans saying hello to Stanton?

If I was vague in my O/P I'm sorry
Why?
Thanks Macca
The MAXIMUM any Victorian side would travel interstate is 7 (Perth x2, Adelaide x2, Qld x2 & Sydney).
I also believed Collingwood had a good run, and did a comparision, and over the last 10 years, they have travelled interstate approx 0.5 games per year less than Essendon/Carlton (the other big 3 teams).
Richmond/Hawks CHOOSE to sell games to Darwin/Tasmania, which skews the view somewhat. Why they sell them is another matter.
Travel is NO WORSE for WCE/Freo than for Adel/PTA, except the distance. And you can't exactly move Perth closer.
The Cats run of like 30 games undefeated at Skilled is also a false record, because they don't play Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton down there. Yes, they have played some of those against teams at the top of their game (Port during their Prem year, Bris etc)..
The AFL is about maximising their return, not about fairness.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

Re: AFL 2011
geelong would choose to play collingwood "home" at the mcg too - they could get 70000+ for a home game, instead of 30 or whatever for skilled stadium, so of course they are going to play it at the mcg.

What you are also forgetting clubs lodge their bids for the draw and ofter clubs will request to play collingwood at the G for a better financial return.
Some Vic clubs are forced to have home games at docklands when their actual home ground is the G ie Melbourne.
Geelong make more money from 30 odd thousand at Kadinia Park because the get every thing from the gate to concession stand and everything in between, sure move the mega home games to G but not to docklands just not enough seats to make the cash.

42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Everyones hit it on the head really.
The AFL is a business and the powerhouse clubs are always going to have the ability to get what they want.

Re: AFL 2011
i heard an interesting proposal the other day, when they were discussing the blowout margins, and that was to shorten the regular season, and extend the finals series.
i.e you would go back to a 17 round minor season where each team plays each other team once, one year they play home, the next year they play away, i.e about as fair as you can get in terms of draws, and then you extend the finals series.
at present, the finals go for 4 weeks.
maybe you could extend the final 8 to a final 10, and have to finals go for possibly 7-8 weeks. not exactly sure how the finals system would work, but i dont mind the idea
the only risk you run is making the regular season count for basically nothing, as it kinda does with the NBA.
what do people think about that?

Increasing the number of teams that make finals is a bad idea, it's already a joke just under 50% of teams make it through. Maybe with 18 it wont look so bad but I've never liked 8 teams in the finals, this year is a clear indicator the premiership is between the top 5.
The NAB Cup needs to be dumped altogether, don't know why this hasn't happened already.
A longer finals series would be good, but you don't want it to stretch into the NHL/NBA. It's hard though because without shorter games, the players can only play one game a weekend (weekday games will never happen).
A fairer (as you can get anyway) AFL home and away draw would be great, but with the amount of money the AFL makes per game/round (although attendance was down on last year halfway through the season) I don't see it happening. The big blockbuster games will always remain (Anzac day, etc).

+1
Have been thinking this for years.
& I don't like the idea of making it a final 10, Would mean 9 wins would get you a finals birth 40% wins from 22 games is not deserving of a finals IMO
