Because of his first year, yes Rich deserved it... it's a midfield he just slotted straight into.

I think the job Otten did this year cannot be undersold though. I was worried about the spot when Bassett left, but he just took it beautifully.

I can see him in the leadership group in about 3 years time.

Quite surprised to read that we now have 8 Rising Star Nominees at our club.

Tippett
Dangerfield
Walker
Otten
Reilly
Burton
McLeod
Moran
Symes

:)

Two weren't at our club when they were nominated. Not that it matters.

Burton came second to Adam Goodes from memory.

With a name like Rich, I wonder if he has deep pockets to go with his short arms!

My cousin Jared still holds the record for most number of votes in the NAB rising star.

He polled the only perfect score of 45. (there was either 5 judges awarding max 9 votes or 9 judges max 5 votes - cant recall)

This was against talent like Bulldogs Adam Cooney and Daniel Cross, team-mates Aaron Davey and Brent Moloney, Andrew Mackie, Brent Reilly, Andrew Walker, Michael Firrito, Brent Stanton, Brad Ebert (pfff), Kane Tenace, Andrew Walker, Jay Schulz and West Coast quartet Beau Waters, Mark Seaby, Brent Staker and Sam Butler.

Yet he hasnt gone on to the heights of previous winners like Mitchell, Goodes, Buckley, Riewoldt, Selwood ect.

He has been wrecked with injuries and its great to see he managed 20 games this year.

Its funny, when he won the award, he was team-mates and housemates and best buddies with then un-known Scott Thompson of the Crows.

Scott was delisted by Melbourne because he was an injury liability, and he has never looked back at Adelaide and is one of the elite midfieders overs the past few years.

Funny game footy. Just like Poker.
