How do Poker players feel the new no-smoking inside will affect NPL tournaments?
Will numbers increase?
Will they decrease?
Should there be slightly longer breaks or shorter breaks but 3 or 4 of them?

Re: New Smoking Laws
The number of players that I've heard say 'geez I can't wait for the new smoking laws' is now in the gazillions!
ok slight exaggeration but you get the idea
One of the reasons some of the venues aren't doing as well as they possibly could be is because they have no ventilation (or just refuse to use it) and as soon as you walk in the door you're greeted with a cloud of smoke. I can think of several players who don't show up at certain venues specifically because of this.
One thing I'm most definitely pleased about is now there's absolutely NO excuse (not that I think there was to begin with) for a player to think they can stand back from the table, have a smoke, then somehow think they're still allowed to play the hand.
Personally I can't see the need for extra breaks, but I'm not a smoker either. First break is 40 mins from the start? Surely they'll live?

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: New Smoking Laws
Oh, I have the day marked out on my calender with lots of pretty flowers, gold stars and a few smiley faces to boot!
I'm one of those that will deliberately avoid some venues because they get way too smoke filled but I am a little biased as I am a non-smoker myself.
I don't think that the breaks are THAT long in between to wait for a smoke and if someone can't wait for one they can still get up, leave the table, go and have one, and then come back leaving their chips in play. Odds are that the button will not have passed it's way around the table by the time they've come back. In fact, at some tables you'd be lucky if there were three hands played
Oh yeah.... I never got any extra breaks to go outside and get some fresh air, so I don't think there'll need to be any more

Well said! Haha.
I've never had a cigarette in my life. Can't wait for this to come in. I know one person who has quit smoking and wants to come and play NPL but won't because of the smoke around to tempt him. Sure, it's still in areas but it means a lot to him for it to be smoke free.

you would think it will slow a few venues down. however, really, the longest gap between breaks is 40 minutes, it shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Re: New Smoking Laws
About time! The worst thig about NPL poker is the smoke. Come home reeking of it every time (as well as the obvious health issues!)
Cant believe the idea of more breaks would even be raised! Ridiculous.
Thank god.. last night of poker with smoke forever tonight at the Torrens Arms. And I'll be enforcing it for sure!

Won't be a problem at the venue I play at (Palais) as they have an outside Balcony to accommodate the smokers ... Given you can't sit there and smoke while you play anyway, I doubt it will have any adverse effect across the board.
